New toy for airshows (and maybe other BIFs)

Last night, I ordered a Magnus GH-M1 gimbal head (cheapest one B&H sold) and I should get it tomorrow. It was about the same price I would have had to pay at Lensrentals to use a more premium brand for a week. I won't have to return the one I bought unless it's defective. Since I'm not a pro, I don't feel the need to pay $300-500 for something I won't use daily. It'll be mostly used with my Tamron 150-600, which I'll be making substantial use of in Oshkosh next week at AirVenture. I can't wait to use it with my a99ii while tracking F-22, Mustangs, and the like. If anyone has experience with this model, comments would be appreciated. Also, is it hard to set up? It looks like I just remove the ball head and replace it with the gimbal.

I know "I don't know" replies are annoying but I wanted to thank you for renewing my interest in a gimbal. I bought a Neewer carbon fiber model on sale on eBay for $120. Like you, I wasn't interested in a megabucks gimbal but your post jogged me into doing some more research. Hope you are pleased with the Magnus.

Thanks. I hope I get a chance to play with it before I leave for Wisconsin on Saturday.

Here's what I got today (please excuse the mess in the background). PS the Blue Angels metal print was a pic I took at Oshkosh a few years back. The Cacti was painted by my mom when she took a class years ago.

I use a Canon 7D mark II with a Tamron 150-600 G2 lens on a Gimball head for my wildlife photos. It works great and I love it. When I tried it for a Blue Angels shoot, I found it awkward to keep up with the speed of the f-18s. I changed to hand holding the lens setup with much better results. I hope you have better luck with the Blue Angels. My Tamron lens is always on my Gimbal head for everything else!

Thanks :) I bought the camera used early last year during the height of the pandemic. I bought the tripod a couple years earlier, also used. I don't remember offhand whether I used B&H or Adorama. I've used either from time to time. Usually I try to avoid getting used, especially electrical stuff because I don't really know how the previous owner treated the item. My other camera I'm taking is an a77. I'd like to replace it with a a77ii, but as I'm going on a revenge vacation next summer I want to save whatever money I can. For $70, I think the gimbal will work out fine.

I'll bring my laptop and post some good pics as close to daily as I am inspired to - probably most days, but there are several acts that fly multiple times. there are also special one-offs, such as a U-2 flyover and departure (Wednesday only), and most people's favorite, the night airshows that end in a big fireworks display and wall of fire. Oshkosh also has a world-class museum, and a seaplane base for people who want a more serene experience. Oshkosh has been happening for like 10 years longer than I've been alive and has something for everyone, from experimental and ultralight to military and commercial. I leave on Saturday early morning. I think the first time I want was in either '85 or '89.
