My daughter bought tickets to this for her family and also for my wife and myself. I'm really looking forward to this as I thought it was an amazing experience when I saw it on line. When they showed it, it was from the Paris show and at that time did not know it would travel. It looks like it will be presented in only four cities here in the US and I feel lucky to live only an hour away from Philadelphia, one of those four cities. Has anyone else on here signed up to attend this? If not, you may want to check it out as it looks like one of those events that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Wow, that sounds great.
I watched a doc on Van Gogh- did you know he only sold one painting while he was living?
Did you know he was averaging about 1 painting every day and a half while he was in the mental ward?

Lucky you! I had the good fortune, years ago, to visit the van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. I am not an artist, but my memories of that visit include my discovery of his early works, before his transition to the post impressionism for which he is more commonly recognised. That transition itself was a fascinating and exciting thing. And I particularly remember a set of five paintings of the same scene, in which he tried different techniques and perspectives. It was an orchard scene. I hope they include that in the exhibition.

You may like to visit this very short "potted" review of his style and technique before you visit (or perhaps you are already well educated in van Gogh beyond my meagre knowledge). I notice there an illustration of his work "The flowering orchard"; this may have been part of that display that I remember.

And an aside, wink wink - I didn't know he only sold one painting: "According to popular lore, van Gogh sold only one painting in his entire life. This oft-repeated tale was challenged more than 30 years ago, but it still goes on. In fact, van Gogh sold at least two paintings in his lifetime, and some drawings as well. Oct. 25, 1998" Big deal eh?

We saw it in Atlanta on Father’s Day. It is quite a spectacle! You should enjoy it. Take your smartphone or camera. They allow photos.

I had to take an art history class in college and the most outstanding thing that I remember was the professor going through all of Van Gogh's various painting periods. The Detroit Institute of Art also had a Van Gogh exhibit about 60 years ago and my parents had the foresight to take me. Forty paintings including quite a few of his most famous, including his self portrait. Very impressive, even to a twelve year old.
