I have an old Nikon D5100 camera and I love it but I would like a new Nikon DX. Any suggestions.

Budget? Do you have a lot of DX lenses? Anywhere from a used D7200 up to a new D500. Not even talking about FX or Z.

Are you only considering DSLR or is Mirrorless a possibility.

If you have a good lens collection you might want to consider a D500.

I took a look at your website. It looks like you do a lot of quick, opportunistic shooting of fleeting moments at one end of the scale and some very thoughtfully composed environmental still-lifes at the other end.

If you are willing to learn a new camera interface, my suggestion would be to look at a camera with the professional user interface. It will make moving from one shooting environment to another much quicker and easier. This would be the D500, if your budget will tolerate it. I know that the scuttlebutt here is that it is a sports and wildlife camera, but I shoot neither of those and still get more than my money's worth from mine.

The only problem is that there really aren't deals on used ones, which generally are priced within $150 or $200 of a new one. And it will be a little bit heavier than your D5100.

Having said that, I must also say that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the photographs you have posted from your current camera. It just might be a little more fun shooting with the D500.

D500 if you have the lens investment already. IMO

If you are satisfied with the 5xxx series than I would stay with it, just a newer model. If you want more from a camera than I would update to the 500.

If you are looking into a Nikon DX camera, check out the Z50. It punches above it's weight class and is bargain priced. Sample images attached.

D500, the BEST DX camera.

I bought the D500 to go with my full frame Nikon and it is the best move I ever made.
The D500 is a fantastic camera.

D500, but I would look at used prices @ MPB.com & or KEH.com, lastly B&H or Adorama as their prices are usually higher

If you shoot video - Z50/Zfc - but don't forget FTZ adapter if you have F mount lenses you are reusing.

Stills only - D500 used.

I find it interesting that not one person has mentioned the D7500. This camera is a jewel to shoot and is considered a junior D500. It has most of the attributes and quality of the 500 but it much lighter but has only one SD card slot! Oh my gawd! The emotional and irrational (and uninformed) rejections of this camera because of the lack of two slots is ridiculous. I've never had a failure on ANY Nikon DSLR I've owned, let alone the D7500 and I've used it for at least two years.
The bottom line is there are deals all over the place on this camera. Proof that ignorance apparently has its good side. Good luck.

I have a d500 and it does everything I want it too. Go for it if you have good lenses.
