Coyote Bobbett and Underwater Tail Slap

This does not appear to be the coyote with the bobbed tail. The regular trail walkers, particularly those walking dogs, have named a female coyote, Bobbett (sp?). This one was barking, yipping and howling at me at 5:35 this a.m. On my return hike, I saw the beaver (with the bite out of its tail). I surprised it in the shallow pond outlet. It went submarine and gave me a tail slap while submerged--weird. So, I got to wondering, did the coyote bite the beaver tail and the beaver then sever the coyote's tail.

I've a tale of two tails to regale
A story where things didn't go so well
Beaver lumbered ashore to lumberjack a tree
Coyote heard the gnawing and looked to see
A giant rodent meal--oh glory be! Just for me!
Well she chomped down on that beaver's tail
But bit off more than she could chew
For the beaver turned and bid adieu
By biting coyote's tail in two.

Suppose?
