Canon print programs

I see folks referring to Canon Studio Pro and other programs that I know nothing about. I'd like to know what they do. How would my prints be better using that program rather than simply printing from Windows?

PSP is a Canon plugin for Photoshop or Lightroom Classic. (a few others I think as well) What it does is make it easy to print and use a color profile so that you aren't letting the printer handle the colors. Many people have trouble setting up Windows and Photoshop so that Photoshop handles the colors rather than the printer handling the color (which is what you want). PSP gives you choices in pull down menus so that you can select the correct paper for accurate colors. You can easily (easier than in Photoshop) add paper icc profiles so that when using 3rd party paper you have a pull down menu to choose from. Simply put, it's just easier than hassling with all the uncertain choices offered when printing directly from Photoshop/Windows.

Also, if you call Canon and need help printing, they will suggest you use PSP.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I guess part of my issue is that I don't know how to turn off the control on my printer.

I am having trouble getting it to be a plugin in Photoshop or Lightroom in Windows 10. I did the research, to manually do it, but it did not work. Any suggestions? TIA
