Photo Shop problem

I am using the full PhotoShop for the first time, have always used PSE before. Some how a screen or layer has appeared over the photo I am working on. It is a screen of very small squares, less than 1/4 inch. I do not know what it is for, but it makes it very difficult to work on the photo.
.

I should have stayed with PPE 21. Thank you all for any help you can give.

Perhaps you have the grid enabled. To check go to View>Show>Grid. If it is checked, uncheck it.

Your suggestion was correct. It was under view. Thank you.

Just for future reference: while in PS, you can turn on/off the grid in view by pressing: CTRL + '
My guess is that you did this by accident to get the overlay your saw.

I have my "grid" set as a cross-hair overlay on my image that I can turn on/off when needed.

To adjust this grid view:

Go to Preferences (CMD or Ctrl+K)
Navigate down to: Guide, Grid and Slices
Enter Gridline every 50 percent with 1 subdivision

Or choose your own ratio, such as 33% with 1 subdivision (rule of thirds)

Enjoy learning Photoshop.
Hint: Don't "just" memorize PS tips.
Learn WHY and HOW PS tips work and you will remember them better.

You may want to abandon the idea that you can't learn what you need to know in Photoshop, especially since you are already familiar with the interface. I fully appreciate that it is new and somewhat different than PSE, and it feels a little uncomfortable at the moment, but it is well worth the effort to become familiar with PS.

Montephoto and others cover what might have happened in detail.

There is all kinds of free support on the web as well as great Adobe tutorials as well as on UHH. You will get some smart ass responses here but just ignore them we serious PS users are more than willing to help

Thank you all for your comments. Seems to me that UHH is getting better overall comments. I have seen several that were helpful and not as many with attitude.

...haha...don't give up. Keep learning different tasks/concepts. PS is endless, and what a great companion to LR!

ONE MORE TIP FOR NEW PHOTOSHOP USERS:

Moving your mouse or tablet stylus to the PS menu bar is slow and tedious. Most tutorials will show you the menu bar method, but all pros use keyboard shortcuts. They just show you the menu bar method to be clear to beginners.

Google the term "Photoshop keyboard shortcuts"

You will be able to find several different websites/charts with many shortcuts. Many will overlap and be duplicates. Many are shortcuts that are so specialized that you will never use them. Compile a spreadsheet chart and make a list of the shortcuts YOU think you might use. (If you are not sure, write the shortcut down.)

Now, set out to use them and MEMORIZE them. Most shortcuts are easily transferred into a mnemonic device to help you remember them. The shortcuts that seem like a PITA will soon be automatic and they will make your Photoshop time MUCH MORE EFFICIENT and ENJOYABLE.
