Not sure about what they mean about the banana not reproducing itself without human intervention.
I planted one little tree in my yard and wound up with ten+ over a few years. Neighbor gained six.
I never did anything to any of the trees. New trees just kept popping up near the older ones.

Makes me wonder about the other statements.
Amusing though.

Silver does "rust".
Rust, a generic term for oxidation of a metal (def. 2). MOSTLY thought of with ferrous materials (iron, def. 1), which is most commonly seen.
Iron rust is red/brown (iron oxide), silver rust is black/brown (silver oxide).
Why do you think people are always cleaning and polishing the silver(ware).
It rusted (oxided).

GOLD does not rust or tarnish.

Rust and tarnish are synonyms.
However most people think of iron as rusting and silver tarnishing.

It will react to some chemicals other than water. I have always considered rust to be a product of water. The OP said "Gold does not rust or tarnish." I would say that silver does not rust but it does tarnish.

Any compound that will create an oxide of the metal. Water is most common.
Oxygen in the air also does.
Water contains oxygen.
If a silver or brass item just sits on a shelf, never to be "wet with water", it will tarnish.
I have a few silver things in my house that have tarnished. Humidity in the air? Oxygen in the air.
How about the black that gets on your fingers from silver rings (jewelry) that are not coated.
Silver oxide. Sweat accelerates it.

Again, rust and tarnish are synonyms. Same effect, oxidation.
Rust most commonly refers to a ferrous (iron) metal, tarnish most commonly to silver AND brass.

Gold is one of the least reactive metals. That's why good connectors are gold plated.

The OP seemed to differentiate rust from tarnish. Most of us lay people do as well. When you polish silver you remove the tarnish. Try removing the rust from your car by polishing it.

The word describing that is "adjuvant". An adjuvant is something added to a treatment that does not by itself affect the thing being treated but increases the efficacy of the main treatment ingredient. For example, sugar is an adjuvant for any pesticide targeting Spotted Wing Drosophila because the fruit fly has taste receptors on its feet and as soon as its feet detect sugar, the feeding instinct is activated, thereby increasing the efficacy of the pesticide.

Curmudgeon wrote:

The strawberry "seeds" are called "achenes".
The cashew fruit (Cashew Apple) is used in Brasil for a drink "suco de cajou" (excuse my Portugese). It is a cultivated taste. The shell of the cashew nut has elements that can cause skin irritation, and is removed before sale of the nut.

Of course it depends on the number of soldiers and the size of the bridge, but that has been known since ancient times.

You can, you need to use a different compound.

Yes, the OP may have, but tarnish and rust are both oxidations of a metal, different references to different metals, different types of oxide compounds.
Saying "Silver does not rust." is a misnomer. While it doesn't produce the same physical characteristics of the base element oxide, rust is oxidation, just like tarnish is oxidation. Both metals oxidize.
Rust is not necessarily restricted to iron, and tarnish is not restricted to silver or brass.
However they are most commonly used that way.
Iron oxide is can be ugly, lumpy, and flaky, while tarnish looks like a coating. But I've seen iron look like it has a smooth brown coating.

And we can discuss semantics well into the evening.........

Can't see that either (literally).
All the dust and moisture in the atmosphere is lit brightly by the sun.
Can't see through scattered light in the atmosphere.
I believe one would simply see a bright blue (white) circle of light at the end of the chimney.

Silver is more likely to tarnish in the presence of sulphur (silver sulphide) than it is in the presence of oxygen (silver oxide).

As a onetime coin collector I am required to know things like this.
