Earlier today, I posted about a pressure washer that I saw an auto detailer using online. The more I think about it, the more I think I might "need" one. I'm 77 years old, and I haven't had one yet, so maybe it's time. : ) I can see how it would be good for cleaning inside the cars, cleaning rugs and floors in the house, and whatever else I can think of.

I'm sure that some of you have steam cleaners, so what do you think? I have a carpet shampooer that gets almost all the spots out of the carpet, but a steam cleaner would do better. The detailer uses this model for his job, so it's probably a good one.

You do quite well spending on your own, you don't need any assistance.

Hire and pay others to do these chores whenever feasible. These workers have the tools and experience. Instead, save your precious hours for doing photography.

Sounds good - except the part about paying.

I prefer to by specialized tools rather than paying someone else to do the job because I'll always have the tool, but the price of the job will keep increasing. When I was a kid, I would drive half an hour to rent a chain hoist to remove an engine from a car. I soon realized that I'd be better off buying my own hoist. I still have it - sixty years later.

And how many times have you used that hoist? Was it cost effective.
I bought a power washer 2500 psi to clean my house, paid a hundred dollars plus for it and used it once. Think about for two days and if you still want it on Tuesday go get it, if you must, you must.

I buy the cheapest name brand battery operated drills.
After many years, the batteries no longer hold a charge and you can't get replacement batteries.
Gotta get a new drill.....
Down to one battery now.

That detailer was "PAID" to use and praise that thing. If he is even a real detailer.

I used to compare the cost of hiring someone to do something with the cost of buying the tool and doing it myself.

As a result I amassed a large pile of tools, to the point where I needed a barn to hold them all. I must say that very few of the tools only got used once because I tended to do this on projects that were repetitive on a time scale of decades. Another reason that tools frequently got multiple uses is that whenever you get a new tool you find uses for it that it was never designed for.

The one thing that was rarely considered was the skill needed for the job. I figured that learning was a good thing. Sometimes that was a good decision and sometimes not.

A pressure washer or just one of the small aperture hose nozzles works great for getting dog poop or similar out of non-skid boot soles.

A pressure washer is one power tool I do use often. I have an electric one so it always starts easily and requires no maintenance. I understand the cord limits range but so does a hose. The more I use it the more uses I find for it. I clean the house exterior, bird feeders, bird bath, gas grill, driveway, porch, car rims, lawn mower and so on. Use the proper setting (nozzles) to ensure you don't puncture or slice through something unintended and save yourself time and effort.

Jerry,
I have a suggestion for helping you spend your money.
Send me the money. I will spend it and let you know how I like what I buy!
We both win! You get to spend your money and I get to save mine.
I could buy one of those washers and let know how it is. Looks like a good machine.

I bought a steam cleaner two weeks ago. The link is below. I bought it primarily for my ceramic tile floors. Some of the mosaic pattern grout lines were long overdue for a deep cleaning. I investigated all brands offered on Amazon and had decided on the Dupray Neat steam cleaner for the steam temperature produced, running time before refill, and the cleaning brushes and attachments included. I pulled the trigger when I saw the price was discounted $20 on Prime Day. It is a serious piece of cleaning equipment, the steam reaches the 285 degree area and is expelled with great pressure when you pull the trigger. You don’t want children or pets present when you are cleaning. I’ve used it to deep clean the aforementioned grout lines, hard surfaces in my bathroom shower, and the glass shower enclosure mineral/soap scum deposits. It made quick work of it all. It is great for normal routine cleaning of hard surface floors; the large pad covers a lot of area quickly, leaving a clean slightly damp surface that drys quickly.

I would say go for it but it is your money and not mine. If it were my money I would think about it.

It’s pretty much an outdoors tool, good for cleaning and stripping decks, house exterior, car exterior, furniture. Needs some practice though, it will drill holes if you let it. In Florida I use mine frequently, in Illinois it’s an occasional summer tool.
