Lurking for a bit & thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Barb. I've been in the racehorse industry most of my life & spent my mornings galloping horses for more years than I care to count, lol. Eventually had to hang it up but I'm also a vet tech. My side gig was always art, primarily pen & ink, oils, etc. Somewhere along the line the muse left but then, later, reappeared with a camera.
So, here I am, forever on the learning curve & that's a good thing! I think that's one of the things I love about photography - there's always something new to learn (although I'm baffled by Photoshop).
This shot was taken at the Keeneland 2021 Spring Meet in Lexington, Kentucky.
(Nikon D7100 & 18-200mm. F/5.6, 200mm, 1/1250s, ISO 2200)
Nice shot.
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome aboard! Do you by any chance know Scarlett. She does a lot of horse photography around the race tracks in that area. A couple of years ago, one of her shots was used for the massive billboards for the Rolex race.

Thanks! Not off hand but, honestly, I'm kinda lousy with names (unless it's a racehorse). I might know her by sight.
Welcome and good to have you aboard!! From the starting gate...you captured a magnificent action image and I like the way it is presented in B&W!!

Nice capture. Think of Photoshop like being a Vet Tech - Applied Science. I actually took classes and find Ps perhaps not intuitive but I have a good working knowledge for what I need for photography. Understand, Photoshop was designed to be a Graphic Design program with some features for photography. It has more and more become a digital photo processing program.

Thanks! Breaking from the starting gate is a definite adrenaline rush! Since I can't do it anymore, I like shooting it :) Went with B&W because, sometimes, race day colors can be overwhelming. I think the monotone emphasizes the action & adds drama.
I really like this, especially in b&w.
That is a very good B&W shot! Is it cropped?

Thank you! Good point - Photoshop really is a science, just somewhat different from the one I'm familiar with. When it comes to tech, I learn best with hands on so, thinking classes are definitely in my future!

Thanks! Yes, slightly. I had my spot on the rail but, just before the break, some frat boys wandered over. As the horses surged, the one to the right of me threw his arm up/out & cheered. The result was a kinda fuzzy blur so that was cropped out. Good thing the camera is weather sealed because he was also holding a beer, lol. He was a bit in his cups but at least he apologized :)
