Corn on the Cob

Corn on the cob was on sale for five for $1.00, so I got ten ears over the course of the week. Then I made a great discovery.

One drawback to corn on the cob is the cooking procedure - boiling it in a big pot of water. Instead, I microwave it for three minutes. Five minutes for two. I've added a couple of preps. Remove some of the looser, outer husks and cut off both ends. When you remove it from the microwave, it will be very hot. Having fewer husks to remove will make it a bit easier, especially when you've already cut off the end by the stalk.

Our corn is so sweet, I eat it raw.

We only nuke corn on the cob in the microwave, comes out perfect. Wife puts a bit of water in a glass container, covers it with sealer wrap, and let's it go for 5 minutes. Stopped boiling in a pot years ago.

Do you unwrap the corn first?

I cut the corn off the cob and sauté it with poblano chiles in butter with salt and pepper, then cover it to steam a bit.

Yes. We unwrap it, clean it with a soft brush, then into the nuker.

I am jealous, mine here in Iowa won't be ready until about the 4th of July. I agree microwave is the way to go.

Yeah, corny! Lol.

I started doing it to keep the heat and steam out of the house. Much more flavor than boiling or microwaving. I'll still eat it boiled but.....why?

Can't wait for the local corn! Where's the drooling smiley?

3 minutes in microwave, as picked. Then cut off big end at largest diameter (you will lose a couple of rows). Then squeeze the corn out of the husk by pinching the top of the ear. Comes out clean with no strings!

I have been Nuking corn on the cob for around 50 yrs. if it has the husk on I simply soak in cold wafer for a few mins, shake off the access and zap it on full power for three to five mins, with out the husks wrap in wet paper towels and zap for the same time. You can also use the husks on method on the grill, but the husking can be a bit nasty and quite hot.
