There programs (some of them free), which can/may restore deleted images. Try using one of these with your card. It may or may not work, but you can lose nothing by trying. If you are lucky it may work.

The IPAD is showing the name of the SD card not the camera. I use LR to bring in my photos rather than FILE APP. FILE APP has weird quarks.

My advice is to go to the nearest Apple store. I could not get help on the phone.

Don’t erase the card or cards. When I went to the Apple store they were very helpful. Just bring the same card, reader, and IPad to the Genius Bar. Apple was able to address the problem very quickly. Just do not try to get help with AppleCare on the phone. I am not being critical of AppleCare but I had the same problem and the Genius bar addressed it quickly. AppleCare did make a quick appointment for me.

When traveling, I regularly transfer images from my D7100's SD card to my iPad using the Apple adapter. I've never had a problem, other than filling up my iPad's memory!

I have had similar issues. I just don’t think Apple software does not do well with external hardware unless it is also made by Apple. You should be able to connect a thumb drive to an iPad and view both movies and still pictures but Apple just can’t seem to handle that without difficulty. Even the newer Android products seem to be losing their flexibility. We are almost better off with a cheap small laptop.

That’s a valid point. I’m typing this on an IPad which I use almost constantly for mail, but it’s I/O capabilities, memory/storage are limited, and so is the ability to run large, complex applications. For all those reasons plus screen size, my relatively small Lenovo Laptop (or a MacBook/Air) are much more capable if a little larger and heavier.

I like using my IPad to review pictures from an SD card, particularly when I travel. This post started with a question about problems downloading pictures from an SD card to an iPad. I think that has been addressed as best as possible. If you do not have a computer with you, you still will need to keep the pictures on SD cards until you get home to use your computer. I do not know how to transfer files from an iPad either back to an SD card or to a computer to use LR or Photoshop on the computer. I know that there are LR and Photoshop versions for iPad but that does not answer the following questions: 1, can you download RAW files to an iPad and 2. How do you transfer files, either Raw or jPeg from an iPad back to an SD card or to a computer? Thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, you can download raw files to an IPad with the appropriate Ap. One easy way to move the data is to utilize ICloud. The IPad will upload automatically if you enable it, and then you can download them to either a Mac or a PC with the ICloud Ap.
