I wore mine on a binocular strap that went around my shoulders and waist. The camera rode up and down on it, as did the binoculars. Of course only used it for one of them at a time. Personally, I wouldn’t want to have to keep yanking my camera off the side of my chest.
I use a cotton carrier vest and love it for hiking, rock climbing ect. I'm only 125 pounds, so a small framed woman, and it is very comfortable for me.
I would also like to hear what others say. I am a small woman and would like to get the weight of the camera off my neck when hiking with my day back. Don't want to keep it in the pack as I might miss a shot. Been thinking of rigging something to attach it to the straps of my pack. Any ideas out there?

I can't do that because a lot of time I have my binoc's on as well...that's why I want to find a better way to carry the camera. But thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks....I don't think the vest will work since I carry a pack when hiking, that's why I was thinking just the clasp might work.
These photos show the carrier. The second image is after I climbed up with the camera strapped to my chest. Very safe and quick access. Hands free and saves my back.

This image shows how I also carry my flash, because I use fill flash alot. I just clip to one of the rings on the carrier and strap all to my chest when not being used.

Thanks! Looks like it works great. I just might have to purchase the vest for when I don't have a pack on and then just the clip to use on the strap of the back pack.

I also have a pack for other camera gear, but not for backpacking. The vest comes with a rain cover that has it's own pouch for clipping to the vest.
I have this and hike with it frequently, though I usually keep my 24-105 on it and not my 100-400. It does still put a little bit of a strain on your neck afterwhile (usually about 5 miles in for me). Overall, I'm satisfied with it. Be sure you use the tether included or find another way to tether it to you, as mine has fallen out of the carrier while hiking steep uneven terrain before. Thankfully I had it tethered!
I've used the CC strapshot for a couple of years now. It takes the weight off your shoulders, keeps the camera secure and easy to access. The only (minor) irritation is that you have to disconnect the safety strap and find a place to put the camera down before you can take the backpack off.
I have the Cotton Carrier G3 wanderer side holster, fits on my belt, I hike approx 3-4 miles 3 times a week with 7d mkii camera & 100-400 Mkii lens. very comfortable, very easy / fast access to camera, I have both camera & lens tethered to a shoulder strap, it is loose no weight on strap just extra security. Sometimes I attach a water bottle to other to balance weight on hips.
I ordered one of each of these...figured I will try them and see which one I like best:
CCS G3 Grey Strapshot and Grey Skout - For Camera - Sling Style Harness
Thanks everyone!
