I have a Canon 5d3 and 7d2. i'm considering another body before mirrorless takes over the universe. I was thinking adding a Canon 5DS R. What are the pros and cons of this decsion?
What will the 5DS do that your other two will not?
Do you really need or want to work with images that are 50.6 MP ?
If you have a question, rent a camera for a few days and take pics like crazy. See the difference for the kind of pics you take. You should see a difference, if your lenses are up to the higher resolution requirements of a high MP sensor.
You may need to use a higher shutter speed. You may need to use the best f/ stops for your lens of choice. You may find that your zooms or older lenses "don't measure up" to the sensor. Shoot in sunlight for best contrast. Learn how to select the best focus 'zone' for working with your new camera.
There are only two things another EOS DSLR will give you over the legendary EOS 5DIII: more pixel resolution and less money. The EOS 5DS models have amazing pixel resolution, but are slightly less capable in ISO performance. The EOS 5DIV is everything the 5DIII model is, packing the punch of a 30MP sensor. You'd be justified in consolidating onto a single EOS 5DIV, dropping / selling both the 5DIII and 7DII. If you can't make that rational move, just adding another EOS DLSR body, from the 1DXIII on down, won't make a tangible difference.

I want to do extreme cropping on my wildlife images.

Thank you. I'm not selling my current bodies, but it makes sense to pay more for the 5D4.

I make limited use of an SR, but I had anticipated that when I bought it.
The lack of high ISO and the large file sizes really set it apart from my other, more flexible, general use bodies.
To partially compensate for its low ISO I’ve equipped it with a quartet of OIS primes from 24 to 150.
Something I especially like about is its unusual mirror mechanism that quite noticeably reduces noise and shock as compared to my 5DII and 6D.
Its other rather specialized function is pretending to be a view camera. With plenty of pixels, plus 24 and 90 T/S lenses, it does that well enough.

Thaz the exactly what the original owner of my SR used it for, including bifs.

Yup, more pixels will help with that!

I'll repeat the advice I always give. Read all the reviews and comparisons you can find. There are three good cameras involved, so see what each one has to offer in comparison with the others. If spending the money will get you something worthwhile (I won't say "what you need"
), go for it. Otherwise, find another way to spend the money.

5DSR is reduced and a great price for a 50mp camera.
Only con is if you were going mirrorless it would be better to go now.
But if staying DSLR I can think of nothing wrong or any con.
Go for it, a great high resolution camera allows much more cropping if needed.
HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!

5DS-R is 50MP and has anti-alias filter cancelled... BIG files with gobs of fine detail! It's also cheap right now. Original price was around $3600 or so, now it's often available for around $1500. It would be a great camera for landscape photography. For fashion photography, architecture and some other things, the 5DS (with AA filter) might be a better choice, less risk of moiré. The 5DS-R and 5DS also are not speed demons... about 5 ore 6 frames per sec, I think (but with those big files I'd probably avoid bursts and only do single shots most of the time). It's also not a high ISO camera... the native range is 100-6400 and it's expandable to 50 and 12800, if I recall correctly.
But it is a very high resolution camera. The original poster's other cameras are considerably lower resolution (Full frame 5DIII: 22MP. APS-C crop 7DII: 20MP.)
