I remember from many many years ago when I was in elementary school I asked a teacher "Can I ....", she replied "Yes you can but no you may not."

Yes, it is a tough language, and let's not even get into spelling vs pronunciation.

Things can be, and often are as tough in German. We english speakers don't corner that market.

You can tuna, but you can’t tune a fish. And if you tuna a piano, it will smell bad in a couple of days!
