Visited the Metropolitan Park on the northern end of Lake Saint Clair. One of its features is a Nature Center and a trail system through woodlands, meadows, wetlands and marshes. Saturday I walked a loop that includes part of the wetland and marsh areas. This is a natural environment for Red-winged blackbirds.

Red-winged blackbirds are territorial and when they display their epaulets boldly it shows their confidence. I accidentally walked up on this guy to within 12 feet or so. This photo is not cropped.

i enjoyed your visit at the nature center, john. love the beautiful shots and dls...the fuzzy baby closeup
is so cute, and love the last red-winged blackbird shot!
Good ones John. If Huck or Jim fall off the raft they both are excellent swimmers.
The RWBBs are so lovely! They provide a wonderful pop of color. These are all very nice, well done shots!
Really nice. I love the song of the Red-winged blackbird. Brings me back to my youth in the marsh.
