The New iPad

I’d appreciate some input from Mac users.

The latest iPad seems to come with significant more power than earlier models. While many reviews I have read are quick to point out better cameras and screens one has concentrated on the internal power and storage. He thinks the Spring WW conference will see the announcement of software that will now run on an iPad that before just was not possible.

I own a newer MacBook Air and a year old iPad 12.9. Do you think this new iPad can be justified? I’d be happy to ditch the laptop if I felt the iPad was up for the job. At present, that is not the case, it is close but not there yet.
Thanks,
Ron

Technically the iPad Pro are really nice but between the iPad and Mac book the software is different. In certain cases I need a full version of software and not an app......

I could not agree more. I guess what I am trying to figure out is that with these rather big changes with the new chip and expanded memory etc. is the new iPad going to allow us to run full blown versions of the software.

I’ve now dedicated a Windows laptop for serious travel post editing.
Maybe the later I pad is worth considering. I have no idea if is or not?

I have an iPad Pro and can run Word, Excel, etc. on documents shared with my desktop PC and laptop. It is very useful for my consulting work that is run from a home office since I can accomplish simple task without rushing to the office. However, it is not useful for serious editing or running stat software such as R. Otherwise, it is similar to my older iPad Air.

I suspect that since the new iPad Pros will be using the M1 chip that there will be a good likelihood that all Mac OS software will be able to run on them very soon. My iPad is a couple years old and works very well, but I would seriously consider a new one if and when it will do everything a laptop would.
