USA Model. Focus motor replaced by Nikon USA (receipt available). Very good condition. Comes with Kirk tripod foot, which replaced the widely-recognized poor Nikon original. Bag, box and Breakthrough Technology UV filter. Lens hood is integrated into the body. Although this is a "D" model, it is still AF-S, so it can work with the FTZ adapter on the Z camera bodies. I have not used this lens regularly since acquiring the 300mm f4 PF, but it still functions beautifully. Spring cleaning means that it is time to move on. $450 plus shipping (to be calculated) plus PayPal fees.

If the lens is a D model, it has no internal focusing motor and will NOT work with any camera without a built-in focusing motor. This would include the Z series cameras. It will work in manual focus mode. Unless there is something I don't know, which is always a possibility. I would check your Nikon receipts more carefully. Best of luck.
Perhaps you are thinking of a different model, or we are talking about different things. I believe that what you are saying would apply to an AF-D model, but this is AF-S. The repair ticket says, "RPL SWM" (replace silent-wave motor). This lens focuses with a D5300, a D500, with a TC-14 E II and a Z50 with FTZ adapter.

YOUR headline calls it a 2.8D lens. If it truly is an AF-S, then there is a built-in motor!

The lens is AF-S with motor. It is a D model because it has an aperture ring. This is an old topic but I just can't let it pass.

I don't know what ad you are looking at but the title says f/4 ED...the ED means extra low dispersion glass perhaps for one or two elements.
The lens is not an AF-D lens.

Neither can I. If it is an AF-S lens it is NOT a 2.8D as D lenses did not have built-in motors and REQUIRED that the camera body had same.

I did not say anything about 2.8 because it is f/4.
Go to NIKON website and look it up, it says "AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED" AF-S means it has built in motor and the D after aperture means it has an aperture ring. There were several AF-S 300mm f/2.8D models that had motor and aperture ring.

I have to admit that I learned something today and I thought I was pretty knowledgeable on Nikon lenses and their history. Back in the day of film cameras (remember them ?), the first autofocus lenses were marked AF. The second generation were marked AF with a D after the aperture which meant that they had a 'Distance' chip included that sent distance focused at to the body. None of these AF lenses had an internal (to the lens) motor and required one in the camera body, something which still exists today on higher end bodies. The first autofocus lenses with a motor built into the lens were marked as AF-I which was soon replaced with AF-S which is also the current designation. Although its there, as you said, I have no idea why, or what it means, by today's standards. A mystery which I will solve sometime in the future. For the money, I would go with the 300PF as it is a FANTASTIC, and also light in comparison, lens. I own the PF version and have since sold both my F4 and F2.8 versions in favor of it. Thanks for insisting and for informing. Never too old to learn something! Best of luck.
