Canon Fish eye lens

Hey guys, I'm still looking for a Canon Fish eye lens. Such lens would help me create images I could use in my fall teaching class. So, if you still have one collecting dust on the top shelf, consider this retired part time teacher.
Besides, being 'out of the house' may save you for an embarrassing conversation with your other half.

I don't have, but I am shopping for a fish eye lens as well. You might consider the variety of Canon-compatible lenses, which will cost less, but still have good optical quality. Sigma makes a full range of them, and then there are various fully manual lenses which still can be quite good. These are made by Pentax, Samyang, Neewer, Meike, and Venus/Laowa. There are cheaper brands but I think with those you are in "getting what you pay for" territory.

It sounds like we should be teaming together in looking for a Fisheye lens. I'm strongly looking for a Canon L series, but if I'm not successful here in helping someone move one of those Canon Fisheye lens from the back of a closet shelf, then a third party lens will be my next step.
I've seen several out there, and including the 'bargain' ones for less than $300. But I'm also reading one buyer suggest taking about 9 different shots, hoping that one of them will be a clear sharp one. So the bargain ones are not what I'm really wanting. Yet, the $999 for a new Canon L Fisheye is rather steep for a retired teacher here.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed here.

Canon L 11-24, One of the best lenses Canon has ever made. Problem is cost ($2,900.00) got mine used.

Canon EF-S 10-18mm and 10-22mm lenses are very good quality and not terribly expensive esp. used -- if your camera has a cropped sensor.

I waited almost 6 months to get mine from Canon. After I got it I found MPB. They sell used gear. It popped up 3 times in 2 weeks.

The Canon EF8-15mm f/4L fish eye lens is an amazing lens, from what I see of it. Having a zoom feature for one thing really adds to its versatility. But one thing I keep seeing about fish eye lenses from reviewers is that the typical user enjoys them for a time (they sure do look like a lot of fun), but they then start to use them less. They are a very specialized lens, after all, and they are just not the lens you want to have on your camera all the time. So it would seem a shame to spend a ton of $ on a lens that does not get played with too often.
My first plan is to rent one or two to decide on the focal length that I want (which will probably be either a 4mm or 8mm lens, since I want a strong fish-eye effect on a crop sensor camera). Then I will likely buy a manual lens with that focal length. Probably around $200.

I bought the Rokinon 8mm Fish Eye CS II to get the experience of fish eye photos using both my crop and full sensor Canon bodies. I cannot justify the expensive Canon L series when it is a lens that is seldom used. Fun to play with but not as important as the other lenses used daily. Even though it is a manual lens, the unique types of photo I do with it doesn't slow the process down when it comes time to take the shot. Taking the image is more important to me than owning the most expensive piece of equipment in my arsenal that doesn't get used very often.

I just ordered the Sigma 8mm EX DG, which was less than half the Canon L series Fish Eye. I would have like to have obtained the Canon, then all of my lenses would be Canon L series. But for the price, I think I will be fine with the Sigma. I already have many subjects around our city where I plan to use it, so I think there will be a good future for it.

If you are wanting a fisheye lens you may want to consider the Samyang, it is marketed under a few brand names such as Rokinon and others. It is a fully manual lens but that is not really a big deal at 12mm or 8mm depending on full frame or crop sensor because after a couple of feet everything comes into focus. The lens retails new for under $400 and it has a great build quality and excellent optics.
