1957 - Jazz at the Philharmonic

Ella Fitzgerald, violinist Stuff Smith, Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, and Roy Eldridge jam together. I attended several JATP concerts in NYC during the early 50's. Fantastic jazz!!


This one is, "It Don't Mean Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing". And it does swing!!

Great stuff! My Dad would have loved to have seen this... He was a huge fan of '40s swing era music.

I was lucky enough to see Ella in the early 1980s. That was with Duke Ellington and his orchestra at Spirit Square, an intimate hall in Charlotte, NC, that was a former church with near perfect acoustics. I had third row seats.
