I would like any opinions on a possible Nikon camera purchase.

I currently have a D5000 with a Tamron 18-270, Tamron 70-300 and a Nikon 50 prime. I have an opportunity to purchase a D750 body with two batteries and charger that has 10,000 actuations for $650.00. Is that a fair deal and do I really "need" it....lol?
Thanks in advance for your valued opinion.

Go for it. That’s a good deal.

The camera is a great deal at this price. But, your 18-270 is not a good fit for the camera, being a 'DX' lens. When mounted to your new 24MP full-frame body, it will vignette until adjusted to the crop factor for a DX lens delivering only 10MP images after the crop, smaller than your D5000 files. If this is a favorite lens, consider budgeting for a replacement specific to the FX format.

Go for it but, DX lenses won't get the best out of it.

Your D5000 has a DX sensor (smaller than 35mm film), while the D750 has a "full frame" FX sensor (about the same size as 35mm film). I would not be surprised if your Tamrons are DX, and may not work well with the full D750 sensor except perhaps for a limited range at one end of the zoom. The D750 can be operated in DX mode, where it only uses the DX sized portion of its sensor, but if that is what you end up doing, I would say the purchase is not justified. I bet your 50mm prime is FX, though; I do not recall a 50mm DX from Nikon, so it should work fine on the full D750 FX sensor. Bottom line: if you make the purchase, you will probably find you also "need" some more expensive FX lenses -- these do not have "DX" in the name or on the body anywhere, if you want to price shop. There are a lot of great DLSR and film lenses out there, and this is probably a great time to buy used (think keh.com, mpb.com, or ebay.com) with so many people moving to mirrorless.

I did a similar upgrade years ago, from a D5300 to a D750. I enjoy the things the D750 does better, do not mind its larger size or the larger size of the FX lenses I also upgraded to. I also enjoyed the fact that I was able to use all my old manual film lenses on it much easier than on my D5300 (some of the metering auto-exposure modes are supported on the D750 and not on the D5300). The D750 is also nicely weather-sealed, as are most of the FX lenses I acquired for it. I like it so much that I sold off the D5300 and its DX lenses. I still have my Nikon FM and Nikon F100, though :)

I can not decide for you if you need the purchase, but perhaps this is more information?

Paul

It's a good deal for that camera regardless of what lenses you have.

Great FX camera. A friend has one. I have handled it. Do it! Another friend is happy with his DX D5100 with vintage lenses.

Have the D750. It is excellent and many fine quality older FX Nikon lenses can be had very affordably, some around or under $100. Check Roberts Used Photo Pro.

Go for the D750! I did the same when I had a D5100. That is a great price, and the move to FX is worth it. You'll be using that 50mm lens initially, as the other lenses are for the DX bodies, though they will work fine on the D750 if you put it into "DX" format, but you will want to be getting some lenses that take advantage of the larger sensor on the D750. I actually have found some wonderful AF-D lenses for very low prices that work great on my D750, but, you might want some of the more recent AF-S lenses. The Nikon AF-S 70-300 4.5-5.6 VR G can be had for only around $150 used. A 24-85 AF VR G would be a good, light-weight "walk-around" lens for around $200 -$250 used.

Do you need it? Maybe not. Do you want it? It’s a good buy. I paid $1000 for a used D750 with 25000 actuations. It’s called G.A.S. If you buy some FX glass it’s a good deal.

I have a d750 and love it! I paid twice what you will two years ago, with 14,000 actuations. It really is a wonderful camera.

The Tamron 70-300 and Nikon 50 are for full frame (FX) Nikon cameras so they will work normally with the D750, but your Tamron 18-270 is for cropped frame (DX) cameras like the D5000. I would replace the 18-270 lens with a 24-70 or 24-120 range lens because you have the 70-300 for further reach. Mostly, it will depend on what subject matter you like to shoot often.

My 2cents: Very good deal. Good news - great camera with very few shutter clicks. Bad news - as others have said, you really will need FX lenses with it. Good news - there are a lot of great used Nikon lenses for sale EVERYWHERE so you can "hit the ground running" in a short time.
