Someone posted a question about this mark painted on a road in town. Someone replied that it's a survey marker that can be seen by satellites. I hope it isn't a bombing target.
I'm not sure but, I think they can overlay current images over images from the past and they use those marks to line everything up. Then they can spot buildings and sheds that have been built without permits or approval.

The Franchise Tax Board in the State of California uses a satellite to track taxpayers in tax disputes. The satellite takes pictures of the taxpayer's home and associated automobiles to prove residence.

Jerry, these are generally survey markers. The primary use is for aerial surveys. Here's one that is south of where I live. Oddly, it's not a section corner. However, its distance from a section corner may be known. --Bob
