Printers with ink tanks instead of cartridges.
I am considering purchasing a Canon or an Epson printer with ink tanks instead of cartridges. I am not really interested in other brands. Two that I am considering are the Epson ET-2760 ($300) or the Canon PIXMA 6020 ($269). I'm leaning towards the Canon. I've only owned one Epson, years ago and didn't like it. I will use it mostly for office and school documents, scanning documents and photos and the occasional printing of a 4 x 6 picture. I like the idea of refillable tanks to save on the cost of ink. The Canon uses pigment ink for black whereas the Epson uses all dye-based ink. It has to be compatible with Apple computers, iPads and iPhones and also with Android phones. I need double-sided print ability and wireless. I did a search on this site but found nothing recent.
I am open to suggestions and would love to hear from anyone who owns either of these printers.
The printer I want is the Epson L1800. But, I have to live in Europe to get it. It is a six color, ink tank photo printer to A3+ paper sizes.
I just bought a Canon G7020 with tanks. I print for when ro and it does a nice job. I also print d an 8 X 10 and a he colors were great. It came with 3 bottles of black.
canon is my best, had both. IF YOU DO A LOT OF PRINTING. ALL printers run a full color sheet ever other day keeps the jets clean.
I have the Epson ET4750 and love it. Got 2 sets of ink with the purchase. Cost 400 Canadian at BestBuy. The ink lasted 2 years for me. Just purchased black ink bottle 30 bucks. Use it for docs, photocopy, scanning. Don’t do a lot of photos. Hope this helps.

I recently had to purchase a new printer. When I spoke with Canon, they actually did NOT recommend the ones with tanks for photo printing. I thought tanks were a really good idea, and cheaper than cartridges.
I have the 3760 which has the document feeder. This is my second ecotank printer and I love it. Here's part of a comparison of the 2760 with the 3760:
The Epson EcoTank ET-3760 and the Epson EcoTank ET-2760 are both good family printers. The ET-3760 is a better choice if you need an automatic document feeder and an Ethernet port, as well as a faster printing speed, better color accuracy, and nicer-looking photos. However, the ET-2760 is a better choice if you print a lot since it has a higher page yield and a slightly lower cost-per-print, and it also supports printing off a USB thumb drive.

That one is a little pricey ($1,040 + tax, import fee and shipping)!!! Plus they don’t tell you what the cost is including the extras. The one I found on eBay says free shipping from Hong Kong. That means you might get it in a year... or never!!

That is supposedly a step up from the one I was looking at. I’ve read reviews on all kinds of printers and ALL of them have complaints!! The ink tank ones print slower and set up is not easy. This one says it does duplex printing; but some reviews say it does not or that it is a manual procedure. That would be a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for the information.

I have the Epson and have run 5+ reams of paper and 200+ 4x6 color photo and still on the same ink it came with. I will never go back to a cartridge again. The only problem I had was when I used Canon photo paper through the colors world start to fade after a month or two but when I use Epson photo paper no fading so far after three years

You got a good price for it. It’s selling on Amazon for $896.48. It’s no longer available at Best Buy but I saw a used one on eBay for half the price. I wouldn’t buy a used printer and new is a little too much for an AIO.
Thanks for your response.
WARNING!! I purchased a Canon large tank printer for my wife about 4 years ago via Amazon and purchased the extended warranty. All ink jet printers use ink even when not printing to keep the nozzles from pugging. That ink goes into an ink pad inside the printer. The pad filled up after 3 years (original ink bottles) and the printer stopped working. We called Canon and they said the printer could not be fixed in spite of the youtube video showing folks could do it. There is software in the printer that prohibits the user from changing the pad and it locks the printer.
I was able to get a refund from the warranty company and purchased an Epson. Before that I checked the Epson website and new ink pads are available from Amazon for $20.
Before you buy a Canon tank printer, check to see if the ink pad can be replaced. If not, buy Epson.

That’s probably because there’s only 3 colors plus black. I have a Canon Pro-10 for pictures, which uses 10 cartridges. That’s why I said I may print an occasional 4x6 on the all-in-one printer. It would be nice to save money on ink as refills for the Pro 10 are quite expensive.
Thanks for your input.

It is a "photo" printer with several tanks. If photo printing is less important than document printing, it would indeed be a waste of money.

If you have a "photo printer" that changes everything!
