Apologies if this is in the wrong section.
If I edit a photo in my own way then decide to apply a preset, does the preset completely replace the edits? If so, then is it advised to apply the preset first then tweak to my preference?
Thanks,
Dennis
As far as I understand, the preset will "replace" your edits if you have edited something that the preset will change.
Always is better to use the preset as a starting point, as they usually will require fine tuning for your specific image (this assuming you will use a preset).

Preset first. Apply your changes to that. Save a personal preset if desired, for use with similar exposures in the same batch.
There is no "Save As..." in Lightroom Classic. Instead, you "Export". An option can be to make your own changes, Export a high quality TIFF and then experiment with presets.
The best approach is to apply the preset first, then apply your own custom edits.
Regarding whether the preset 'overwrites' or 'replaces' your exiting edits, it depends on the content of the preset. See example.
Say you made changes like:
exposure: +0.5
contrast: +0.15
whites: +30
blacks: -35
If the preset doesn't include it's own customization settings into the four areas / sliders above, the preset is better described as 'merged' with the existing edits.

Note that in LR Classic, in the Develop Module, there are both presets (on the left side of the screen) and profiles (on the right side). Profiles are a bit more versatile, since they don't modify the slider settings, therefore allowing you more leeway to edit following application of the preset.

In LR, just make a couple of virtual copies and test both methods.

No need to save or export. Just make virtual copies.

Dennis, yes, any changes you make will be over written by the preset. Do the preset first, then edit it if needed.
A little off topic, but you can also selectively copy and paste any or all develop settings from one image to another using the right click menu. You get a box to click or uclick which settings you want to copy.

Nope, not even going to start LR Classic talk today, I don't want you stroking out over my methodology. LOL. I asked my Wife to take a brief look at my Library, she did, then walked away telling no wonder I get unravelled so easily. So, now that we are about to come down from Charlevoix and try to get into Chi. Town earlier than anticipated for Bar Mitzvah Heaven, which I have already warned people that I'm hitting some old spots with friends that I went to school with and that we might end up getting arrested for trying to pay girls to do Boudoir photos in the train station. I actually think that would be cool, you know having shots of chicks up against the Art Deco. Anyways, enough of that, I have noticed where I hit a Folder in my Library and there are no photos. Can I go back erase that Folder and Straighten my Demon possessed iMac out by dragging images within LR or should I just do a import all over again. Plus, since everything is backed up, couldn't a person delete their entire LR Library and just start over, by now Paul you should kind of know where and what I happen to be thinking. I broke out in hives over my once Glorious Catalogue. Plus, one final thing and GOD am I glad that we crossed paths, I could not update my Mid-2011 iMac so that it could use the 2021 Version of Photoshop/Lightroom CC due to the fact that you can't swap Graphic cards out. And here I went and put a Samsung EVO 2tb ssd in the darn thing, but I do have the 2021 version on my new MacBook Pro and it's a lot different with my Folder structure so even though Folders/Files on my HD's are the same, things are not as Kosher as I thought that it might be. I do everything through my BenQ monitor, so everything is a constant except for 2020 on desk and 2021 on MacBook. Point me in the right direction please. I will then go to my room and think about what I have done.
