First of all on Apple all the way.
1. I have a ton of images on my iMac that my wife wants to be able to see on her phone and laptop. I was trying to use Google Photos to share but it was always a struggle as it often would not upload an image (jpeg) and I couldn’t figure out why. I also looked at Amazon Pictures but honestly, it is very confusing to use and has a very small limit on videos.
2. Way too many images to put up on any hosting sites without having to get a mortgage on my house!
3. I have gone old school and downloaded the images to a thumb drive which she can put in her laptop but that doesn’t do anything for her phone.
4. I've thought of using a NAS drive but I am not sure that will even work?

Any help would be appreciated but hold off the snarky replies please.

Easy. Since you're Apple, use Photos app. Create a shared album, and invite them to share. Free.

"Create a shared album

In the Photos app on your Mac, select the photos and video clips you want to share.

Click the Share button in the toolbar and choose Shared Albums, then click New Shared Album.

Type a name for the shared album, then type the email addresses of the people you want to share the album with.

If you want subscribers to be able to view the shared album from an iPhone or iPad, be sure to use the email addresses they use to sign in with their Apple ID.

Click Create.

Your invitees are sent an email asking them to subscribe to your shared album."

Doesn’t that require storing my 60k images in iCloud at a huge monthly charge? And Photos is where I store the images she wants to see. If I am reading your post correctly the email is going to do what? Download all those images to her computer? Do they sync as I add new images? And thank you for the answer

It allows her to access the album, which remains in the cloud, where they already are. And she can see new images as you move them into the shared album.

I am going through the process right now for about 1k images from a trip. What I haven't been able to tell from your answers or my research is whether they count against my iCloud storage. I pay 20GB because the free 5GB wasn't big enough. If the photos do count they are going to exhaust that total very quickly. Also, I've read the shared album compresses the images which should be ok in this instance.

When I had an Android phone, all my photos went onto Google Photos. Eventually I had to move to iPhone because my new wife was on iPhone and Apple and Android do not talk to each other well. It took up to 24 hours to get a text through. Once on the iPhone, Google Photos was worthless.

I use flickr for some file sharing, Dropbox for some file sharing, and for the family photos I sent a PDF with photos to family members who are not very computer literate. For the completely computer illiterate, they got paper copies.

My computers are Windows. I have iCloud for Windows. It allows my iPhone photos to show up on my PC and I can download the ones I want and store them locally. They are backed up from my PC to local disks and the cloud (not the iCloud). Local disk storage is probably much more convenient than cloud storage, but the cloud storage is safer.

As far as my iPhone is concerned, I pay $0.99/month for an extra 50 GBytes of storage. That probably won't hold 60K images, but do you really want to inundate your relatives with all of them? I think I have around 3K images in the iCloud (some of mine, some of other family members) and I have plenty of space to spare. If I need to free up any I'll just delete some old images. They're all backed up here.

My iPhone gets used for a lot of purposes. When I sent my tax stuff to my accountant, I just took a photo of all the pages with my phone. It showed up in iCloud so I went to my PC and downloaded them, stored them in with other tax documents, and deleted them on my iPhone. I don't plan to share them with my extended family. When I need to repair something, before going to the hardware store I take a photo of the item, along with the plate showing the model and maybe serial number. Also showing dimensions. So when I need a new toilet seat I can show the guy at Lowes which toilet I have and get the right seat without any hassle. (There are probably 100 different models of toilet seats, and not all of them will fit your toilet).

If you put them into iCloud then you'll pay for storage. But placing images already in iCloud into a shared album will not cost extra.

I am relatively new (2.5 years) to the iPhone, but I pay $0.99/month for 50 GBytes of iCloud storage. It doesn't seem excessive to me, but if I tried to use it for my 1.8 TBytes of photo storage, it might get a bit pricey. Not all my photopile is appropriate for iCloud so I pick what I want in there and the rest go in my other cloud storage, which keeps all my stuff (not just the photos) from my PC.

It might be something to do with your phone plan.

I think that the NAS drive would be your best solution as long as your wife can access your network.

I went the way of having my own web site. I have now posted about 300 photos and I will go up to probably a thousand. Same cost. Maintain the site, etc. Unlimited storage and views. Just a learning curve to program in WordPress.

The main reason my whole family and extended family have IPhones is because of Apple’s photo sharing. We can all share pictures of kids and grandkids easily. I pay $9.99 per month for 2tb of storage. Not only does this handle all of my photos but it also is enough space to completely back up my Mac and iPhone. That is not a bad price for 2tb and the convenience it provides.

But there are also work arounds if you don’t want to pay for iCloud storage and just use Apple’s free storage. This option would allow you to share some of your photos by creating shared folders that utilize iCloud.

Great explanation David.
More specifically regarding iCloud storage. There is a way 'around' the limits so you don't have to pay extra--and this generally applies if you do not automatically upload your pictures and videos from your Apple devices.
If you store you photos on your computer (or external drive) as most of us do..
1. Export or process your photos for 'web viewing' as you choose to a folder on your computer.
2. Open up Photos..and 'Import' the photos you want to share into Photos. This will populate in the Photos App.
3. Select photos, in the order you want them to appear in your album, and place them into a 'Shared Album'--weather you are ready to share or not.
4. Once uploaded and appearing in the Shared Album, you go back to your Photos in the Photos App, and delete the photos/videos that you just uploaded. The files in the Shared Album will remain!!
Since the files are not in iCloud Storage, they do not count against your limits. ONLY Files stored in iCloud count against your storage capacity.

See Apple's Photos and iCloud limits attached.
