Just to rant a little. I am not sure if the UPS or USPS is to blame for extremely slow delivery of a small package sent by a medical service company.
below is a summary of the tracking info as supplied by usps

Feb 12 9:12 pm UPS pickup Waterloo, IA. USPS awaiting item
Feb 12 9:12 pm arrived shipping partner Minneapolis, MN. USPS awaiting item. UPS must have teleporting equipment they are not telling us about. 214 miles in less than a minute
Feb 13 10:14 am USPS awaiting item. Bensenville, IL (Chicago) 253 miles east in about 12 hours
Feb 15 3:01 pm arrived a hub moline, Il 61205. 158 miles slightly south and west
Feb 17 8:16 am arrive a usps facility Des Moines Ia network distribution 352 miles west
Feb 17 8:34 am departed USPS facility Des Moines Ia. This is 129 miles from where the package started.
Feb 21 9:50 am Arrived USPS Detroit Designation Facility
Feb 24 In Transit to Next Facility. Your package is moving within the USPS network and is on track to be
delivered to its final destination. It is currently in transit to the next facility.
Anyone willing to bet I see it by Saturday.
Per google maps the package has traveled 1544 miles and with much back tracking. Fort Wayne is 448 miles from Waterloo Ia
Either the tracking info is a pack of lies or UPS and the usps are extremely inept.
The vendor blames the Wuhan virus.

Two correct logical explanations for one issue. If dealing with almost any other two entities, and impossible conclusion-not with these two however.

Don't feel bad. We have been waiting a week for a package to get from some where in Mississippi to South Dakota. Tracking has it in Memphis... since last Friday. Where it supposedly still sits. It's a harness that needs replaced on my semi truck. Truck is sitting at the Volvo dealer just taking up space.... and I have to stay at a hotel since the dealer closes at night and on weekends.
My boss ... in Jacksonville, FL... found another harness... in Canada. A known problem ( bad engineering/assembly )... so replacements are few.
And... it has to go thru Customs. If not here in SD by Friday, it'll be Mon before it can be fixed.
Was supposed to be in South Texas last Monday...
At least I'm in Rapid City, in a supposedly haunted hotel, with quite a few nice restaurants. And shopping.... us girls like to shop. Not necessarily buy, just shop.

Unless God hits them with a lightening bolt of change and efficiency my money is on Sat March 6 - maybe - 13th anyone?

Years ago when they first went to the "Hub" system I read a story about a guy in a small town in, I think it was, Michigan. Wrote two identical letters to a friend in a town a bit over 30 miles away but in the distribution area for a different hub. He put one in the mail and gave the other to a guy taking part in one of those "Frontier Days" re-enactments. He was driving a cart pulled by oxen going to the destination town for a camp out type event. This included camping overnight along the way - twice - Oxen are slow, strong and with great endurance but slow.
Want to guess which letter got to his friend first?

I've been running into many problems with USPS. At the moment I'm waiting for 3 packages that are somewhere in their system. One was mailed the end of December, one the end of January, and one on February 14th. I recently received a CD that was mailed to me on November 28th. From now on I'm going to ask vendors to use another carrier. I'm willing to pay more for it if I have to.

The sorter machine, which is a long conveyor with pushing shoes will use a scanner to read the bar code and decide which chute the shoes need to push the package into. There are many reasons why the package can miss the chute or box container and end up on the wrong truck/airplane.

It seems to me that small parcels are particularly vulnerable. I bought an eyepiece replacement for my Nikon DF from an Ebay listing with the company being in San Diego, CA. Within 24 hours the tracking showed it to be received by the post office in San Diego. The next update for the tracking showed it to be received in Memphis mail hub (which serves northeast Arkansas). The next notice said "processed through Memphis and in transit. All good so far. There were then 5 subsequent notices that it had been processed through Memphis and in transit, all at different days and times. Five days after the last process through notice, the item showed up in my mail in Jonesboro, AR. A distance of about 80 miles. The package, of course, was small. It had marks on it where it had been stepped on (boot prints). It was scuffed, dirty, and the corners all dog eared and in general terrible condition. What that tells me is that the package spent some extra time in the bottom of a mail bag, on the floor of a mail truck, on the floor of the processing center, on the back of a shelf and forgotten for a period of time.

Whatever; the US mail has gone from a world class model of what a mail service should be to one of the worst around. I can't believe it is due to lack of profitable volume. With the advent of Ebay, Amazon, etc, etc, etc, it seems the USPS should have plenty of profitable volume to work with. I think that nobody cares.

I gave an order coming my way... I was informed that it was shipped early on the 23rd, in NJ. Around 9PM - still on the 23rd - I get a notification email that a label had been prepared by the USPS at 12:50 on the 24th (!) and they were awaiting receipt of the package.

According to the tracking site, that is still the situation, 48 hours later.

It isn't like it is an urgent package, but why provide tracking if it is completely unreliable? Or if it shows up the incompetence of the organisations carrying out the delivery?

Took 24 days for a small package to go from Salt Lake City to Phoenix.
That poor bicyclist. Probably had blisters on his ass.

Two days ago the Postmaster General told Senators who complained about the decline in postal service to get used to him because the president can’t fire him. Hopefully the president will appoint new members to the committee that can get rid of him and they will.

update on package: tracking shows that on Feb 26 it is in Bismarck ND. They now added that the package was in Fort Wayne post office on Feb 13 before it headed to Moline, Illinois. Calling UPS is no help.

Quit ordering online. Every week someone on this forum has a rant over delivery delays. Go out and support your local retailer. He/she is likely suffering because of the on-going lockdowns and could really use the help. You are more likely to be killed driving to the store than by the Wuhan virus.

It’s curious to me that all the service I’ve gotten from the USPS has been quite good and timely delivery in spite of all the dysfunction others are seeing as posted on this forum. Of course, the current Postmaster General is disrupting things but the effects must be hit or miss across the nation.
