Has Carbonite Cloud Backup gone out of business

I am in my my second or third week of trying to contact Carbonite re the file backup they allegedly provide. When I open Carbo and try to restore I get a message saying Restore Disabled. The message is on the screen for a split second and then disappears but after awhile it reappears again for less than a second which is not long enough to read the message about what they are trying to say.

My emails have gone unanswered, they do not respond to chat requests and I cannot find a telephone number. It appears I am in some kind of a communications loop with them and go from Support to Contact Us to no response and then back to Support to repeat the cycle over and over. I cannot even reach their Sales group.

i have used them for years and in the past, whenever I have needed support, they responded very well. I am wondering if they have gone out of business. Also, does anyone have any suggestions for a legitimate efficient cloud backup service? I will probably drop Carbonite as soon as I can investigate a recommended alternative.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide---also beware of Carbo.

You must not have tried too hard to find a phone number. I Googled "Carbonite phone number" and got 1 (877) 222-5488. Good luck.

Yes, I foolishly went to the Carbo site expecting them to have a legitimate number and to my own acct with them that did not have a number. See what happens when you try to do things logically? I'll try your suggested phone number. Hopefully it is not disconnected.

I recommend using cloud storage from one of the big players such as Microsoft OneDrive or an Amazon or perhaps Apple product.

Absolutely! Major cloud providers such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft or Apple.

I'm seeing a trend of companies that don't list their support phone number on their website, only chat support, but you can usually get it from Google.

Carbonite has been backing up files that I've created and changed today.
At least they have the green dots on them.

I did find this though: https://www.opentext.com/info/carbonite-and-webroot
It's a while back, but is the phone number for OpenText different?

Maybe they're working a skeleton crew in house because of Covid?

One can only wonder if these services might kick a customer off if they do not like the images (or whatever) that is being saved. Witness what Amazon has done with Parler (which ran on AWS) and the books it has removed from sales.

The others are little different - the point being - be careful. You don't want to offend the overseers.

I guess that is another reason for multiple backups. But really I think the risk is low, the issue with parler was that it was info provided to the public whereas the backup is not seen by anyone at least not in the public.

Perhaps, but it is a slippery slope. Seems our elite masters are taking a page from the playbook of the CCP - and as such cannot be trusted to do what you might think is the "right" thing.

In his book "We Have Been Harmonized" author Kai Stritmatter goes into detail as to how the Chinese have, rather successfully, turned the population (well, most) into drones without critical thinking capacity via deep and wide propaganda, including "erasing" things that make the party look bad. With that mentality, it is not a big leap to foresee a time when those in charge at Insta or Flickr or whomever deem photos of guns, or damage done by friends, or anything that might "upset the apple cart" are no longer acceptable and just delete them - throw them down the "memory hole".

The book is well worth a read.

I had a problem with my Carbonite about two weeks ago. I had a very nice gentleman from Carbonite take over my computer, and spend a half hour or so fixing it.

I initially used Carbonite for my cloud storage and liked it, but several years ago I got a message that they were no longer going to be offering cloud storage. So, I switched to BackBlaze.

They seem to have been doing it since.

Are you serious? It is not a good idea to let anyone remotely take control of your computer, ever.

Incorrect, it is the best way to fix a computer problem using a trusted source such as HP, Carbonite, and you son.
Standard practice, been doing it for years
