I have a question regarding HEIC pictures vs. JPG. It seems that some of the photos taken with my new iphone have recorded, (processed) in the HEIC format. Research into what is necessary to continue processing/printing suggested that I load an app that will convert the HEIC to JPG. Any suggestions as to the conversion app too use? Need suggestions. I am using Windows 10
This should be an simple operation to make such a conversion.
Thank you.

One quick and dirty solution is simply to email the heic to yourself. You will receive a jpg.

I just noticed yesterday while going through my photos in photoshop that the iphone photos saved as HEIC files. Once I hit save file in photoshop, it was converted to a JPEG. I found this purely by accident while editing a few photos. Not sure if this helps you at all but if you have photoshop just open the file and save as JPEG. Someone else may have a better suggestion than I.

My daughter got a new Iphone and suddenly for no apparent reason some of her pictures were HEIC format. She uploads them to Google Photos for me to download. I did a search and found a site that converts them for you, unfortunately I don't know the link, but you could find it as I did with a google search. Some other good suggestions here if they work.

I think it's bad form for Apple to inflict this new format without warning, assuming that's what they did.

Go to Settings --> Camera --> Formats

Selecting High Efficiency = HEIC. Selecting Most Compatible = JPG.

I would suggest using a camera and shooting RAW.

I got iCloud for Windows. You set your phone to send the images to iCloud and you can download them to your Win10. Heic comes across as two files: jpg and mp4.

Every photo you take on your phone will be accessible on your Win10.

You can change your settings to store in jpeg.
As for conversion you can do it in PS with image processor.
If you don’t have PS I guess try what others suggest.

I used to have your viewpoint but the best camera is the one you have with you.... I am pretty amazed at what the little iPhone can output ! The scope of the in camera editing options in WHATEVER format is really extensive. If one is NOT printing and using camera primarily for social interaction Why not use the phone cam ?

And with many smart phones, including iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, you can shoot RAW.

On a Mac there is a program called "Imazing HEIC Converter" that is very fast and easy to use. I don't know if they make one for a PC, but it might be worth a look.

Can’t remember what the iPhone photo setting is but mine transform to JPEG when I copy them to my Windows PC. Or you can set your iPhone to save in JPEG format.
