Looking to get a new monitor. ViewSonic VP2768 PRO 27" 1440p Monitor or 27"Benq 1440 . How do I know or how do I determine if the graphics card will support it? Thanks Hogs

Right-click on your Windows desktop, choose display settings. In the Scale and Layout section, pull down the Display Resolution list and see what the max resolution is. Confirm that your new monitor will display at these settings.
Monitors are pretty benign things and will work with any graphics output given to them. The driving factor is your graphics adapter. According to the website, the Viewsonic 27" will display up to 2560 x 1440 max resolution. How does this match with your graphics card?

Thanks for the reply. I have a 1680x1050 native top to pick from. So I assume it will not work ? I will have to get a
new graphics card?

If you do replace your gpu look at Nvidia. They have drivers for their cards that are photography specific. They are at the leading edge of Al and gaming also. Gives you something to investigate while you decide your next move.

It should work even though the monitor can display more detail. Monitors can use less but not more.

It will work but not at the maximum resolution the monitor can handle.

Not as easily done as you think. Confirm that your system power supply can handle the requirements of the new video card.

Yes and what type of pcie your motherboard is offering. After trying to put music on floppy disk on a commodore 64 until now I find it better to build the best computer you can afford then build another in 5 years or so. I have always since the beginning built my desktops to be upgradable. I have yet to actually upgrade one. By the time comes to upgrade it offers almost nothing worth the expenditure. A new box has always been built. Lol

I did what rgrenadephoto said & it gave me the top my monitor is capable of, 2560x1080. I have a Nvidea video card GTX1070. The specs for the card is 7680x4320. Type in your video card in a search box & add the word specs. Your card specs should come up. Hope this helps.

Hey Sparky, Both of your picks for monitors look pretty good. I've had a Viewsonic before as they have been well touted. BenQ has a good reputation too.
I gather your monitor now is only a 1080p? And your concern is that your graphics card won't support a higher res monitor? My advice. Get the monitor. Then upgrade your card if needed.

I believe he stated he had a gtx1070. If so it will support anything needed for photography and any monitor he will purchase below 2000 bucks

That resolution might be because of what is currently connected. You don’t even need a separate graphics card for a 1440p monitor or even 4k with the built in graphics on the CPU. The card allows fast update of graphics for games etc, not needed for photos
