Problem with altered jpgs

This has been dogging me for a long time, and I have no idea how to fix it. If I take a jpg file, whether I shoot it that way, or in this particular case it is created from Topaz Noise reduction, and I alter it to my satisfaction. It looks fine to me. If I try to use it on ebay or send it out on facebook, the jpg that is used is the one before I altered it to my liking. I have no clue how to fix this. Any suggestions??? TIA!!!

Silly question, but did you save after editing?

Laramie’s note triggered a thought: When you’re saving the file, make sure it’s being saved as a jpg file and definitely double check that it’s going to the right folder.

Be brave. Delete the original. You might be verrrrry sorry you did it, but you will learn something. Too harsh ? No pain, no gain. Acoarst don’t try it with a wedding. There’s no guarantee it will go badly, but it might. Either way you learn something worthwhile. Let us know what you find.

Save it with a different file name first. Manipulate to your hearts content then save the outcome as a jpeg file. Open that save file then resize to make the file and image smaller then save again with an additional "small" or "S" tag to filename. Upload that saved Sfile to site of choice. It will upload faster and usually they are also compressed when you upload so it is better to make it smaller yourself so it will not have to be compressed automatically & out of your control when uploaded.

You need to establish a workflow that creates a copy of your jpeg, where you version it as a means of differentiating it from the original. It could be something as simple as <filename.1.jpg>, <filename.2.jpg>, etc. and never use save when working on a filename.1 file.

Not being there to see exactly what you did makes it more difficult to diagnose.
But I'll guess too...
Did you (the editor) save it with a different extension or in a different location?
Did you "save" it when you were done?
Did it ask if you wanted to "overwrite/replace" the old one?

If I modify an image I always "save as" and add something to the file name (adj; 8x10; Adj5x7; etc.).
I can always delete the unwanted version.

You should always make a copy of a JPG and edit the copy. This allows you to save the original and start over if you lose or want to reedit the copy. Every time you save a JPG as a JPG you are compressing an already compressed file an losing some of the image.

All good suggestions. And don't forget that most photo editing software have a 'virtual copy' function that allows you to make a copy of the photo you want to edit. That preserves the original.

Darn, mine don't. But I'm careful with the save function.

I do not use Topaz, I use Photoshop Elements for post processing. I also shoot mostly RAW files for more data to make the changes. I always open in ACR (Adobe Camera RAW) for the initial adjustments then after opening the image to the editor I make a copy and discard the original (actually it is still in my library and can be restored to the default information as a RAW file). After I am pleased with my adjustments on the image I save it as the same name (sometimes I do change it) but as a jpg file. I can always go back to the original file and make different adjustments if needed or wanted.

You mention Topaz but is that where you start? Perhaps you could provide more information, i.e., the exact steps you are taking in Topaz? Do you use any other software? The issue is most likely with saving the file and its edits. Software programs differ in their approach to saving images. Here is an example where someone could go wrong in LrC: you process the image, hit the export key, then set the export to "original," thinking that this will include the processing metadata, but it does not, it actually does export the original, untouched file. Maybe read up on the software you are using.

Some don't understand that there might be multiple posts between their reply and to what they are replying.
