Hi, everyone I just wanted to share. I live in TX right outside of Dallas. Last week do to cold weather and electricity going out for 37 hours straight a water pipe busted in my ceiling. I didn't find out until 2 am that morning when the Fire Department called me.
When I got there we opened the door and water started gushing out the door. The busted pipe was spraying water everywhere. I lost everything, I had insurance but when covid 19 hit I was told to close my business. After four months I was allowed to reopen.
I wasn't getting any customers due to the six feet distance apart from one another and having to wear a mask. All my clients canceled their appointments. I completely understand because who wants to have a picture taken wearing a mask. So with no income coming in I had to do something and fast if not I was going to lose everything including my home so I had to make some hard decisions and one was canceling the insurance on the studio, now with everything ruined, I don't know what to do.

Thank you for listening to me : )
Jay

You're probably struggling to find positives to think about but on the bright side covid seems to be on the way out. And the customers that cancelled will probably still be there and wanting your services when restrictions are lifted.

Stand firm. This will pass and you'll be back. I know it's cliché, but time heals all wounds. Good luck

Maybe you can apply for a grant from fema or the stimulus bill.

Like Steve33 said try for a grant. I believe fema is for individuals only but not sure. Also see if SBA has any programs available for this.

This covid has created havoc and a lot of businesses have closed because of it. Sorry to hear you were one of them. Have you checked into grants etc for covid victims. My daughter was able to get a couple and stay open, and then used some of the money to make changes got the better.

Good luck.

Jay, I truly am so sorry for all you've been through. I've never experienced anything like that so I'm not going to say I know how you feel but I do know I would be devastated. I know at this time it is difficult to have a positive view of the future but do know that things will eventually improve. All I can say is hang in there and believe.

Boy that's a tough situation, I'm in Houston and just a month earlier, I decided to close my studio and work from the house, so I guess I was lucky. Other than 4 darn cold nights and boiled water the home did okay. I plan to keep my pro insurance as I go further into retirement.
My suggestion is to try and rent/share facilities with a friendly competitor perhaps. When you get a shoot, pay them a good chunk of your fee to use the facilities and equipment. Chances are he's hurting too and could use the help also. Back after Hurricane Katrina, we had a few New Orleans photographers come here temporarily. I had offered my place to help out! I've generally worked well with other shooters, either as associates in a large studio or on a sharing basis. Your local chapter of the ASMP or PPA might be able to help--you should be a member of at least one group anyway!
