Imagine if we directed this light down where it belongs instead of lighting the bottom of the clouds. It does make for an interesting pic.

From the colour & tread title I'd guess it's city lights, where the old low pressure sodium lights have been changed for lighting that gives a much whiter colour. Sadly this makes it more difficult to remove the skyglow.

Totally agree. The images from space show that we have still not conquered properly directing urban lighting.
Great capture, though and would make a dramatic cloud replacement image! Always look on the bright side... couldn't resist (:(

The sun has already set and the remaining glow from it mostly gone. Unfortunately this is mostly city lights. What's worse is Lake Havasu has lighting ordinances in place, but nobody seems to follow them.

Correct. It's frustrating when you try to educate people that lighting up the sky is not only wasting money, but has many other negative consequences.

The worst are commercial offenders, most of the residential neighborhoods don't have street lights and not that many are lighting their cactus gardens up at night. I guess it could be worse, I could be living in LA, NY, DFW, PHOENIX, the list goes on. I always appreciate a good pun. Thanks
