This AF D lens is very highly regarded and popular. In addition to being a superb macro lens, this Micro Nikkor also produces beautiful portraiture. Having used the AF-S VR 105mm Micro Nikkor G lens also, I along with many other Nikon die-hards prefer the D lens – it’s simply sharper and at half the price of the AF-S VR G lens! So why am I selling this great lens? To avert GAS, I’m exchanging it for another legendary D lens, the Micro Nikkor 60mm f2.8D, to have a super sharp lens I can use to digitalize my big film and slide collection in-camera, while at other times shoot standard 1:1 macro. I’ve also been concentrating on doing more ultra-macro at greater than 1:1 magnification, using reversed lenses on extension tubes, instead.

I’m neurotically fastidious in handling and caring for my gear, so this lens is in superb overall condition. The Autofocus, Manual focus, and aperture ring all work perfectly. The aperture blades are clean and move smoothly. Buttons, switches all function normally.

Cosmetically, there are only minor surface marks on the lens housing and caps from usage. The lens mount is like new. See photos. The front lens surface has always been protected by a filter. Thus, the glass remains crystal clear with no scratches, haze, fungus, or significant internal dust.

Price $325 includes insured shipping within the continental USA.
Interested buyers, please PM me for my PayPal email address and instructions. Thank you.

Seriously, don't forget to "check" (store original) when trying to sell a lens. Just sayin'

I have two of these. This version of Nikon's 105mm Micro is quite a bit more compact than the newer version which I also have. It comes with no lens hood, BTW.

Quick question - what is your technique in digitizing your film? Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter. I'm going to use the Nikon ES-2 + adaptor and film/slide holder, along with the 60mm f2.8D. I don't have the D850 yet, but will get one as soon as I can raise some cash. I don't have GAS! Either the D850 or D780 has the in camera program to digitalize and create positive image. The resolution of the D850 would be great, but 25 MP from D780 should be fine.
This method will be using the camera shutter a lot if digitally converting a lot of slides or film.
Check YouTube for various videos on method. Thanks for asking.

I've been appreciating your pics, quixdraw, so I know you know your gear. I like these older D macro lenses a lot!
Gonna get the 60mm D to do what I want to do.

It's tough to give up something that works well, but I look at my needs as just replacing a fine D with a smaller fine D that I can use to digitalize my film. The 105mm can't be used as well for that purpose. I've been doing more reverse lens stuff also with other gear, so I'll be occupied.

Keep shooting with yours. It has stood the test of time.

I look at your images and appreciate how you use your gear, so you know what you're talking about, Fotoartist, when it comes to "version" of a lens. I'm a stickler about image quality -- you can improve it only so much with post processing, but what comes out of camera is the first step to quality. I've shot with both the D and G 105mm, and I swear, the very fine details like the hair on an insect's body come out sharper from the D -- after tuning my camera's AF precisely for both. So I salute you for having 2 copies. I wish I could afford multiple copies. I'll get the super sharp 60mm AF D and try to stand closer to the bug. If it takes off, well, so be it, I'll go find a mushroom, instead.

If you’re doing all this just to convert from 100mm to 60mm for slide and film copying, then keep your current lens. The ES2 and ES1 work well with almost any macro lens, including your current 100/2.8D.

You will need a few 52mm empty tubes to increase the slide to lens space. Those are all over EBay for about $15 per set (of four) and are called either Nikon manual tubes or Nikon K tube set.

There are multiple recents posts about it in the general discussion forum. I use various lenses with my ES1. See pix below. Your rig will use MUCH less “plumbing” cuz your sensor is larger than m4/3 cameras in the pix. The rigs in the pix deliver 80MP raw files and can optically crop deep into a slide or neg by removing some stovepipe.
