I have never had a problem. Just a matter of keying in the activation codes...like any other software.

1.805.520.8286 is their tech support line though.

Thank you for the try, however, that phone number goes to some corporation other than topaz software for photography. It sounds like they get many calls every day from topaz software users.

They just give you one more option.
Usually, the results are very close to perfect...and why wouldn't they be?
It's a quick way to get to an optimal image if you want a realistic image that is.
If you want to go 'artistic'...then no.
But it can save you a lot of time.

I have done it both ways to the same images...and many times I end up manually where the 'AI' program ends up in a few seconds.
Sometimes not...but it still gets me a lot closer in less time without it.
All of the programs mentioned let you do it manual... (show quote)

So you are saying that the programs offer an "auto" button that does all the work for you.

What you really meant was that "All digital post processing PROGRAMS have AI". Not that they ARE AI.
If I choose not to use the AI in a program that has it available, that's my choice and my digital post processing is not AI.

My result is, I got the sharpen program open and it works very well. The balance of the suite remains totally inaccessible to me.

Have you tried going at it as a plugin from lightroom?

1. I do not have light room.

2. Thank you for that phone number! I will try it right away.

I must say that I am extremely impressed with the help that comes on this website!

Thank you to all of you,

You must still drive a stick shift car, do not want the car decide when it needs to shift. Just sayin.

Pretty well established that an automatic transmission can shift much faster and smoother – but the manual is more fun, especially on a twisty road (not so much fun in city traffic). So, do you want to take pictures or make pictures?

I called the number, got a recording, TOPAZ Customer Service; I hung up once I thought the number was correct.
Is this not the number for Topaz ... the one we want.?

Neural nets are very data/processing intensive. What all those words mean is that it is tailoring to the situation what has already been a lot of processing on existing photos. I had some knowledge of this years ago, but don't know exactly how photos are handled, but for example, a thousand points of data, can easily feed into millions of connections/questions, each one of which may change 100's or 1000's of times during the processing. Many textbook examples greatly reduce the # of pixels even with small datasets, such as recognizing hand written numbers. I worked with datasets of a few 1000 samples with equal numbers of datapoints using methods simple compared to neural nets 10 years ago, and had a good computdr run for 2weeks solid doing nothing else. Today's would be better, but handling a lot of photos with neural nets would be mind boggling to me. I suspect they must preprocess the photos to something more compact before performing the neural net computations, i.e., find edges?
This would explain to me how their programs work at all on a wide variety of photos including
astro photos.

In general, there are methods available, but only useful to someone with virtually unlimited computer resources which eventually trickle down as consumer computers get better. There was an article months ago on a sharpening method NASA developed. The demo image showed an urban seen and the results readily apparent even to my eyes, something often not true here, but the process requires months on super computers, but just weight 10 years.

Just some thoughts;

Hey, this subject is not worth the energy spent on typing. If it works for you, use it; if it doesn't don't. One thing I try to never let happen is to let philosophy get in the way of results. JMHO

I just noticed some of the steps that Topaz Sharpen goes through:
Listed in no particular order: INVOKING CONVOLUTIONAL CORTEX / REARRANGING NEURAL NODES / FIRING ALL NEURAL SYNAPSES / INVOKING NEURAL SHIFT INVARIANCE / VERIFYING NEURAL SHIFT INVARIANCE / GROUPING NEOCORTICAL NODES . The program works very well and I think some engineers are chuckling. No wonder you need a "Kick-ass" computer for Same-Day Service on large batches of photos!
