I don’t think they were in the sharing mood! Wapiti Wolf pack, Yellowstone National Park well below 0, but worth it!

That's a situation where you don't want to "zoom with your feet."

They’re looking for their next meal as they are down to the bare bones on this one. Run, Beth, run!

Wow, my hound dogs are spoiled, they get fed twice a day. And elk would be a bit too large for them to snack on.

That look is one of trepidation, as well as hmmm, I wonder what that would taste like.

A really good photograph of nature in action.

I'm betting that dark colored one in the front is the Alpha male and the look he is giving you is definitely not an invitation to dinner. Great shot. I would like to hear more about how you came to be in the correct spot to take the photo and how far away, etc.

Hi Paul, right now in Yellowstone only one road from Gardiner to Cook City is open and you simply drive up and down the road! We had someone tell us early in the morning that the pack had made a kill overnight and it was relatively close to the road. So we like every other photographer in the park, and there are many pros spending their winter there, headed to Floating Island which about where the kill was. We then spent 4+ hours watching the 3 come and go. These 3 are actually young and the lowest on the totem pole for eating. The rest of the pack had already had their fill before sun up. There were also 4 coyotes there waiting for the wolves to leave so they could have their turn. I do have photos I took the next day at a different location of the alpha female who is all white and like 13 years old now, and the alpha male who is also older as his face has white or grey fur now! I will post those photos as I get to them, lots of photos to process! Oh, we were about 150 yards away.

I went for a few days on my own and then did do a few days with a guide. Anyone in the park would have found this however because it is just like a bear jam in the summer! You see about 30 photographers and no parking, something good is there! You also learn which cars the pros are in and if you see them go by on a mission, you follow them because someone gave them a tip on wolves or something good!
