Just looking for alternate opinions on this.
I decided a year plus ago to sell my D800 and get a Z6 with 24-70. Sold a few F mount lenses with or after, such as AF 50 mm and 28-300. Bought the 24-200 last fall and decided the 24-70 ought to go so it is at MPB for sale.
Also got the Z50 with two lens kit (16-50 and 50-250) last fall. Impressed by it so gave my D5600 and 18-300 to my daughter-in-law. I have 10-24 which I can use with it with FTZ but generally prefer FX for wide angle so won’t use it much. It plus FTZ is big and heavy.
Decided I’m going to take only the Z6 on major upcoming trip involving air travel. But needed a wide angle because 16-35 + FTZ too large and heavy. So now have Z 14-30, which is nice and will do the job for the trip. So with it I no longer need the 16-35, so it is at Adorama for sale.
Decided yesterday I needed to try some images with the F mount Macro 105 on the Z6, which required the FTZ. The FTZ was on the 200-500 attached to Z50 for birds. It was a multi step process to get the switch done. I get annoyed by fussing.
While looking at KEH site for status on my Z 24-70 I noted a like new D610 could be had for about $500. Subtract the $300+ they’ll give for the 24-700 it can be had for a little over $200. And my Z6 batteries work with it.
Adorama has my 16-35 but hasn’t gotten back to me yet on final price. It will be about $500. But I can tell them no thanks and they’ll ship it back.
Thoughts on choices.
PS: I am inclined to be frugal but money isn’t an issue here. I always compare my photography hobby to past endeavors like boats and ATVs...and don’t come close.
My head is spinning after the first four paragraphs. Is this a question or some sort of puzzle?

I believe it's about perseverance. The reader's perseverance that is.
If macro is your goal here, you might be better off if you were to go with a crop sensor camera such as a D7100, or D7200. For macro, a little more reach is usually a good thing. You would have an "effective focal length" of approx. 157mm.
I bought a Sony rx10m4 and GAS is now a thing of the past
You're a mirrorless owner asking for permission to buy an old camera with a mirror? Ans: No.
I, too, am awkwardly moving into the mirrorless world with a Z50 and new (to me) Z6. However, as a birder, I see no reason at all to give up my D500. With three somewhat different bodies, I have yet to settle on the optimal set of lenses, and I have taken the step of purchasing a second FTZ adapter. However, I would not recommend buying thr D610. What would you use it for that the z6 can’t do? Spend the money on Z lenses.

I, too, have the Sony RX10 MK4...Like all GAS, it will only take you so far...
Huh??? First off...Take a deep breath.
I can see how it confuses. That is why I’m dithering.
It is about not having to fuss with the FTZ. I initially thought it wouldn’t be an issue. It is.
An option I considered is just getting another FTZ. Unfortunately they want $250 for one if you get it without camera and there aren’t any used out there yet.

I can use the 105 on the Z50 with the FTZ.
My advice for you is to first sit down and imagine the ideal setup for your specific photography needs. Then work towards that goal. Leave G.A.S. out of the equation - it only distracts you from what you really need.

That is good advice. Thank you.
Bottom line: take what they offer for the lenses and get another FTZ. That will cut my FTZ swapping by more than 1/2 because I’ll leave one permanently attached to the 200-500. Most of my photography is cruising National Parks etc. with 200-500 attached to Z50 and wide angle on the Z6. When air traveling I’ll only take one camera and two Z lenses for it. If photography is key part of travel it will be the Z6 and 15-30 + 24-200. If not or if subjects more likely to include wildlife then Z50 with 16-50 and 50-250, and if mostly about wildlife also lug the 200-500.
I didn’t really want another camera and the Z6 is better than the D610 in several ways. I’ve already swallowed the Z6’s biggest issue by getting xqd and CF express cards and adapters. I’ll also be about $750 ahead by that choice.
I’ll save my GAS for when they come out with the Z 200-500 equivalent.
Ah, here is another option. When shooting wildlife I always use min fstop on 200-500 (5.6), and recently learned how to use focus peaking on the Zs for manual focus. And I also use M mode with auto ISO for wildlife. So that will all work fine with this permanently attached to 200-500.
The only thing of consequence I lose is the lens VR. But I use high shutter speed anyhow for most wildlife. And if I happen to use it on Z6 I’ll still get IBIS.
Cheap enough that it is worth trying while waiting for used FTZs to pop up. And for special situations I can still use FTZ on 200-500.
