Hello and welcome. You have been told about the mono setting in the picture styles but this isn't necessarily the best thing to do. You are better to take in Colour in the camera and then convert to Mono in post processing. This has two main benefits. Firstly you maintain the options of choosing either colour or mono in the future. Also, because you still have all the colour channels, as you desaturate to create the mono image you can change the shading separately on each of those colour channels. You may have blue sky, green grass and leaves, people in red or yellow clothes etc. Each colour can be separately given different shades of black to white to give your favourite final mono image. You have much greater control of your final image.
However, if you don't want to get into post processing stick to the mono setting in camera.
Good luck and whatever you choose enjoy.

I’m 67 years young and have dabbled in photography since I was in high school. I didn’t have the time to be more serious with it because life got in my way. Now that I’m retired it’s time to get with the program. So here’s my question, I recently obtained a Canon 60D and I need an answer and hope somebody out there has an answer. I know there’s an auto setting for color but is there an auto setting for black and white? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
