Great set, Mike. I’ve been to all those locations, and you’ve caught them nicely. I like the one of the hanging glacier on the way in to the Portage Glacier Lake. Thanks for sharing.

Superb set! Very beautiful area, and the timing of your visits for autumn color, is inspiring! Interesting, with lots to see and do in that area.
The dead trees in that area are due to the '64 earthquake dropping the land several feet, allowing saltwater into the soil, in turn killing them.

Thank you very very much Doug, I appreciate you comment.

Thank you very very much Greg. I didn't know that the dying trees were caused by the the earthquake, see the posting by Doug.

Mike, Doug is absolutely correct. The ground sunk, the road was destroyed in that area, and they had to really scramble to get the road open to the Kenai Peninsula again, as they were cut off down there. That entire area, down at sea level, consists of glacial silt and isn’t particularly stable.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Took many a drive from Anchorage to Seward.

The bottom photo, number 6, is just outside Anchorage, right?

Ah, Turnagain Arm. Reminds me of my year on Fire Island (1963-64), U.S. Air Force. Thanks for the views.

I didn't know that, you see one is never to old to learn.
