Problems charging my iPad

A week or so ago, I began having problems getting my iPad to charge. Assuming the cord was bad, I changed it but to no avail. To make a long story short, I finally traced the problem to the charging block the cord plugs into. After the fact, I asked about this at an electronics repair shop, and the fellow said he’s never heard of this problem before.

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

How old is it? And is it an Apple product that is matched to the iPad?

Power blocks do fail. Lots of options on Amazon, it’s just a USB charging block, ideally A higher power one for the iPad

I’ve had the iPad for a couple of years now, and it is an Apple product. I had a spare from an old iPad, so all is well now.

I’ve had several power blocks fail and almost invariably at the most inopportune time!

Yes, they do fail..not sure and will never know the rate. However, check the output of the old vs new block. They may be different. The older one should be lower and therefore the iPad will take longer to charge. Never bothered me since I charge mine at night.

Yes I have with my Samsung tablet. Used the one for my phone and the tablet charged just fine so I ordered a new one for the tablet.

My wife had a 5-6 year old ipad that wouldn’t charge, took it to apple store and was told the battery was gone{dead} and not replaceable. Offered me 10%off for a new one. Wow

When you use the term 'power block', are you referring to the female connector at the bottom of the iPad, where you plug the charging cable in?

And wireloose, what did you put into Amazon's search engine when searching for the power block?

Wait, I just did an Amazon search for 'power block', and beside free weights, it pulled up the AC/USB charging device you plug into a wall socket. Is that correct? And if so, I believe the first writer is talking about the Apple fire-wire(name ?) that plugs into the iPad. My best friend has been experiencing intermittent trouble with that, and we know the cable is fine, and the wall AC/USB 5 volt power unit is also fine.

I'm anxious to learn what you all have learned, should the problem be a interment female connector on the iPad.

A google search will reveal a number of independent companies that will replace iPad batteries plus a few DIY YouTube videos. I’ll admit to not knowing what versions are supported. I have a 3 year old that I plan on replacing its battery this year.

You can also try using a can of compressed air to blow out the accumulated dust and whatever has worked its way into the charging port on your iPad. I had a problem getting it to charge, tried replacing everything else then my wife asked if I cleaned out the charging port!

A charging block must convert the 110 v AC to much reduced DC voltage for USB. That means an electrical circuit inside the block. Elements of that circuit can fail. Toss the block if it doesn’t self repair.

I'd steer clear of that repair shop. The number of USB charging packs I have biffed is legion. If the repair person has never heard of it he either started yesterday or is the luckiest person in the world.

I had the same problem and it was driving me crazy. So I finally went to the Apple store and he got a paper clip and extended it and very gently stuck it in the port and cleared out a ton of dust. After that the charging worked perfectly and still is 1 year later. Try it, it might be the problem. The guy said it was quite a common problem.
