I remember as a child nailing our metal skates to a 2x4 and having fun for days. Today it's a whole industry with prices from $30-$100+ for a board. Skateboarders can become a nuisance if sidewalks and roads are used. Here in Morganton, NC the city built a skatepark a few years back. As I am approaching 70, my time in this sport is limited to watching.

I clearly remember home made skate boards. Didn't use one too often, putting on a wet suit over fresh road rash was not an enjoyable experience plus I always worried about blood in the water and sharks.

I didn't put my first wetsuit on until my 20's and had my share of road rashes. I had a friend when I was at Georgetown Univ. Who I'd race on skateboards down the ramps of the hospital's parking garage.

Thanks Linda! I'm trying to use more negative space when I can.

It's almost like ballet moves. Balance is the key.

Been there, done that. It would do that skater some good to use pads.

I remember skate boards when I was a teen. They were a board with each end curved up a little. Nothing fancy. The wheels were small in circumference and they didn’t go over cracks or other objects very well. The wheels were made of steel and had no give to them.

It was a challenge to go down a hill without crashing. We used the sidewalk around a park mostly. You soon learned where the spots were that you had to avoid. We didn’t have knee or elbow pads or helmets in those days.
