Some time ago I was contacted by the editor of the German Elephant Magazine asking permission to use a photo I had posted on Flickr. The photo is of Shanthi, a female elephant that I photographed at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. It is not a particularly good photo of Shanthi but she passed away a few months later so they had to find an existing shot to use in their magazine. I recently received a pdf copy that included the page with my photo. Unfortunately, it is all in German but I understand it will be translated to various languages and it is shared with the caretakers of elephants world wide. The publication is part of how they keep track of all captive elephants and the organization works to educate and improve the living conditions of all of the elephants.

Thank you, Toby. I had posted it on Flickr. They recognized Shanthi because she has a straighter back line than most.
