I am considering buying a mirrorless camera. I currently shoot Nikon.
The new Nikon mirrorless cameras have a different lens mount. Making all my lenses useless.

so I will look at the Nikon z5 and z7II

I read the new Canon mirrorless cameras use their same lens mount and
Canon lenses are def cheaper in price that a nikon lens.
Now that I am retired money is a lot more important than before.

but if you are using a mirrorless camera, what one are you using and how do you like it
and last but most important how is the picture quality compared to your old DSLR?

I have read reviews, I have talked to salesman . everyone has an agenda , as do some of you but I know i'll get some good answers.
Thanks

What is prompting you to consider mirrorless?
Is your present camera not living up to your desires?

FTZ adapter—did the salesman mention?

I have a nikon D810 and a 3200 , I have been seeing pix from mirrorless, taking by people that were not sure
what end of the camera to look in, and they are as good and many times better than my 810.

I am seeing the 810 does not pick up colors as correctly as a newer mirrorless.
I can shoot 6 or 7 or maybe 8 shots and the camera takes it time and processes the images
The mirrorless sounds like a machine gun.

The only thing I like about my DSLR over my friends cameras is when I blow something up to 4 or 6 foot. Mine is MUCH better. I am sure the new mirrorless full frame cameras will do the same now or very soon.

If you think the mirrorless taking better pictures I think you will be disappointed. There is no inherit reasons why the mirrorless would take better pictures.

Aside from the burst rate difference, are you sure that the "better" colors that you observed from the mirrorless have not been adjusted in post processing?

The pictures on this site taken with mirrorless are no better than others. If you are buying it for better pictures then save your money.

I don’t think you would go wrong by going with a Nikon mirrorless. The Z5 is the “budget” full frame mirrorless and the7II is at the top of the heap. Also, the Z6II is a good choice. And you can still use your current Nikon lenses. You just need to get the FTZ (F to Z mount) adapter. Your current lenses mount right on it and there’s no loss of image quality or performance. The new Zxx series produce very high quality images, and the new Z mount lenses are reported to be exceptionally sharp.

I can’t speak to the Canon mirrorless because I have no experience with canons. I do have Sony cameras and find the menus to be very logically laid out. Sony has made the sensors for Nikon, as well. If Sony interests you, the A7III is supposed to be outstanding. It’s a 24mp camera, but if you want more megapixels, consider the A7R IV, at 61mp, but it’s expensive, and you have to ask yourself if you really need that much camera for what you do.

But again, you can still use your current F mount Nikon lenses on a Z mount camera using the FTZ adapter.

I agree. You can’t tell what kind of camera took a photo once it’s been taken. The decision to go with one kind of a camera or another is based purely on what style one wants, which technology is preferred. Different strokes and all that.

I have the Z50 and the Z6. Autofocus is faster than the D850 and also sharper. I will probably get the Z6ii. For the price, you can't beat it. Also, I can use all of my Nikon lenses with the FTZ adapter.

I will sell my Z50, Z6, D850, D500 Nikon P1000, and several lenses. The lenses for the Z series of cameras are better than the DSLR lenses, from what I've seen.

Just get the F2Z adapter and your current F mount lenses will work.

I rented the Nikon Z 6II with the 24-70mm S f/4 lens for two weeks just recently. It's excellent. The image quality is at least as good as my D500 or even a shade better. The face and eye detection autofocus is implemented very well. I used it at this studio photo shoot just this past weekend.

Hmmm... I thought about this a lot and although I have been a Nikon user for a long time, decided to get a Sony Alpha 7c. Reasons? Fast focusing, small dimensions, 24MP full frame, back-lit sensor, in-camera stabilization, good focusing aids when using a non-EM lens (I wanted to be able to use my Mamiya 645 lenses and my old 75-300mm Nikon zoom without too much hassle and the e-mount adapters are cheap. Add the flip-out, fully-adjustable screen and you have a very versatile body. I chose the version with a 24-60mm "kit" lens and have enjoyed using it with the Mamiya adapter, which gives me a nice selection of lenses while I wait for the Nikon F adapter (which is also cheap). I knew that the electronic viewfinder was a compromise, but I have ended up with a camera which gives excellent results. I shall be posting some more later (no studio model shots yet...) Just the Z to F adapter for my old Nikon zoom would not have met my requirement with the Z6 and so I switched brands. It is worth looking around, IMHO.

I disagree , why? the D810 came out 6 years ago.
The advances in camera computers and technology has way surpassed the quality of the D810 even the cheap beginner cameras , the computers are much better.

So yes I do believe the photos will be better . IMHO
