"A face that only a mother could love?" Even this one is too ugly for that. This is my preserved Camel Cricket that I staged for a 5X magnification session to showcase the features of its face.
Here's a bit of what I have learned about them: "Camel crickets get their common name from their humpbacked appearance, which is similar to that of a camel. Also commonly known as cave crickets or spider crickets, this species can be found in caves, as well as damp, cool areas underneath damp leaves, stones and rotting logs."
The don't have wings to fly however they do have long powerful legs for jumping to flee danger. They have a lifespan of two years and they do not have the ability to 'chirp' like other crickets do so they will not keep you up at night.
That really is ugly but an excellent stack as usual - great work Gary!

Thanks, Tinusbum. Perhaps when spring returns the pretty ones will come back our way after wintering down there with you.

Kpmac, It's so good to see you back.
Thanks, Napabob. Mother Nature endowed many of her creation with beauty. This one not so much so.
