So what are you guys using to edit your video? I'm not a pro but I'm looking into getting something that I can edit video from my 5D Mark IV and my new drone that shoot 4k video. What's free? What's inexpensive? What's the easiest?

Thanks

I have been using Serif Movie Plus for the last couple years. I like it, does what I want. Paid $39.95 for it. There is a free version currently available here - http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjwmv7JBRDXkMWW4_Tf8ZoBEiQA11B2fvMBnQQORQ49IdqCiqWRkCM2O0WPAjH6PaTvU1sPoycaAp-_8P8HAQ

Thanks for the link. Have you used any other video software? Just wondering if you have a little comparison feedback.

I've used Corel Visual Studio Pro. Not bad, but for some reason it occasionally bombs and closes. After trying 2-3 others, finally started using Cyberlink Power Director. It is pretty stable and easy to use.

I just Googled Serif Video Editor and it appears that they have discontinued the MoviePlus program. Glad I got it when I did, I like it a lot. I have used Microsoft Movie Maker and it works OK. The thing I didn't like about it is you can only save your video in Microsoft's .WMV format. However, looking at the MS website it looks like the program will support .MOV and .MP4 now. I haven't tried it, I will have to look into that. I like that it lets you speed up and slow down the video. Another nice thing about MS Movie Maker is that it is free.

I had purchased Adobes Premiere video editor - version 12 I think. I didn't care much for it, I found it confusing.

It appears I'm a few day late on this topic!

I've used Premiere Elements since version 9 and updated a few times. I'm now on version 15. List price is usually around $90 and it goes on sale a couple times a year for around $60. It does everything I've ever wanted to do with video clips, including 4K. Audio track management is good too.

Premier Elements has output choices to facilitate anything from DVDs to YouTube or Vimeo. There are good output choices for playing on 4K TVs.

There are some workflows that make use of Lightroom to manage your video clips along with your stills. If you shoot RAW and set Lightroom to save .xmp "sidecar" files, Premiere Elements will import those files with the Lightroom adjustments. You can make a "slideshow" or mix stills with clips.

I use Adobe premiere CS6 and Adobe Audition CS6 to edit video and audio. I looked at the upgrade to Adobe CC but didn't see enough difference to upgrade. These two products are pro level editors. Like Photoshop you can do as much or as little as you want with them.

I think the OP is trying to buy some software to edit his videos from his 5D Mark IV. Where would you suggest he buy CS6 versions of Audition and Premiere?

I got mine on a torrent. But you have to know what you are doing and you run the risk of installing a virus. I think earlier versions like CS3 might be in the public domain. Adobe audition is the rebranded Cooledit Pro,
but that may only run in Win XP 32bit. The CC versions are available for a fully functional 7 day free trial period.

While viewing old posts on this forum, came across your question. Not sure what you settled on, but I highly recommend 'ShotCut' (spelled correctly). It is very full featured , FREE, video editing software that I've been using to edit videos from my drone. It's interface is simple and intuitive and will do all or more of what expensive video editing software will do. Give it a go.....you'll like it, especially for free.

Over the years I've used a couple programs depending on my purpose.
For simple editing, joining, converting or simple DVD creation I've used DVDVideosoft's FreeStudio. It is a collection of stand alone programs. If you purchase/donate you get a code which allows you to edit losslessly. I've used it for at least a decade and highly recommend it if it'll fit your needs. The free version is pretty good and it doesn't cost much to get the "premium" version.
I have also used different versions of Cyberlink's Power Director and recommend it if your needs are more complex/demanding. It is slightly costlier but much more capable.

Jim, thank you for the ShotCut recommendation. I just downloaded it today and watched the tutorial video. I can't wait to get started. I can't believe it's free, can't beat that price!

Happy New Year!!

Apple iMovie comes with every Mac. It’s very simple and intuitive, yet powerful. I’ve been using it since 2001. I also use Final Cut Pro X.

I have used Cyberling Power Director for years. It is the easiest one I have found. It was reasonably priced. Lately they are going to a subscription. I guess it is always up to date that way. They have a great community of users and understandable tutorials. I have tried to learn Adobe Premier lately. It has a much higher learning curve. (Or I am just getting old)
