Dan Ellis Loc: St. Louis, Mo

My name is Dan Ellis. Like what seems to be the majority of UHH members, I too am a senior (73) with a long history in photography. I have been reading from this forum for several years but have never joined into any of the conversations nor submitted any photos. Now I'd like to change that. My history started in 1963 when I was a junior in HS and took my first photo class. I knew within a month of that class that I wanted to work in the photo industry and I have all of my life. High School and college of course, in the army during Viet Nam years and later in several different photo jobs as a civilian. In the early days it was photo lab work, commercial and some industrial. I got started in wedding photography in 1972 and and went on my own in 1980 doing mostly wedding and Bar Mitzvah event photography for 32 years till I retired in December 2012. Of course I've gone through the full list of camera gear from early 35 mm slrs , view cameras for commercial work and mostly medium format for event photography. My favorites for that was the old Mamiya C330 TLR and then the Pentax 645. I got my first digital a year or two before Nikon brought out the D100 and kept up with most of the new Nikons as they improved. I currently have the D750, a D7200 and an older D300s. Also a sony A6000 and the sony RX10m4. Of all of them the RX10 is my favorite but I wouldn't want to shoot a wedding with it. I also did a lot of video work in the past but no more. I don't shoot much any more but still enjoy photo day trips and occasionally longer photo expeditions. I do have a large collection of photos which I can post from and I intend to do so now, starting with some of my older stuff and posting by category. I review my old photos frequently but have never shared them much with others, so I hope some of you will enjoy them too. Thanks I don't have any good photos of myself at my current age so I am using one of me holding my grand daughter in my mid 40s. She is now 30. Age hasn't helped things.

Welcome Dan, I was on the Bensenville PD during the years you were at Fenton, but was already done with the Army when you went in. My brother went to nam though. He was Randy Kasnick and you may have known him, RIP from NAM related injuries. Have fun on the HOG, you may not learn as much as I need to learn more, but it certainly is entertaining here. Lots of comments and many curmudgeons...
