Hi, George, it is not surprising that in the debate you did not hear said what I wrote, because it wasn't. But you should have heard him mention "closing loopholes," and if following his positions for the last few months you should also have heard repeatedly that he intends to eliminate the home mortgage interest deduction for income tax. In this venue, Romney is not going to mention how that particular aspect of "closing loopholes" is going to affect millions of Americans in this venue.

This fits into the pattern. If you are going to lower tax rates (as Romney stated in this debate he was going to do), then to maintain or increase the level of income presently taken in "without raising tax rates," then you have to tax a greater amount at the same or a lower rate.

I was disappointed in Obama's performance, and certainly hope this debate is not a game changer. I would be the first to admit that I am not "better off" now than when Obama took office. But l would be a lot worse off, in my opinion, if Obama had not been elected President. Yopu can only see being better or worse off as the most important factor if you fail to think about how you would now be without his win.

We will see what we will see, and no matter who wins, we will muddle through, just as we did under W. I will be voting for Obama.
Hi, George, it is not surprising that in the debat... (show quote)

Blah blah blah, mortgage deduction. According to multiple sources the average effective federal income tax rate in the U.S. is 11%. If you do pay $12,000 per year mortgage interest then 11% of that is $1,320.00

Also according to multiple sources average family income has DROPPED by about 4.8% from June 2009 to June 2012 to $50,964, which is $2,569.00.

So Obama's plan cut EVERY household's income by $2,569.00 and by your math Romney's plan will cut household income ONLY FOR THOSE HOUSEHOLDS THAT PAY MORTGAGE INTEREST, by $1,320.00.

YOU do the math. I would rather only lose $1,320 than $2,569.00

P.S. what about those who are not dumb enough to pay $1,000 per month mortgage interest. A more realistic average number for the U.S. may be half that, or $6,000 per year. Then the mortgage interest deduction only benefits by $660. A far cry from $2,590.00. Plus, I contend that if you can afford a $350,000 home you can afford to pay your fair share of $1,320.00 more per year.

Wait a minute..... isn't listening to FOX NEWS like reading Mel Brooks' "HISTORY OF THE WORLD, BOOK1"?

I hope I can ask a serious question without posting or receiving any right-wing or left-wing crap. I have heard ad infinitum derogatory comments about FOX News, yet no one has bothered to say why it is that FOX is such a pariah. Can ANYONE give me some real, not opinion, hard facts showing how FOX deserves such scathing venom from the liberals and supposed adoration from the right? I would like to see five instances (there must be thousands, according to the comments) of verifiable LIES from FOX News. I don't want to waste my time with radical opinions or left-wing spin, just facts that are undeniable from either side. Can ANYONE do this? I really doubt it.

Just finished watching Romney and Obama in the debate. Romney was much smoother than I have ever before seen him -- but still lying and trying to sell snake oil deceptively.

For instance, let's look at his statement that he won't raise taxes. One of his oft-repeated goals, he has said repeatedly in past months, is that he will achieve his financial goals "without raising taxes." He has also stated that he will achieve much of this by closing "loopholes," and one of the loopholes he intends to close is the household mortgage interest deduction.

Well, now, let's look at the math. If you are buying a house and paying $1,000/month in interest, which is a low amount here in California, that means you no longer get to deduct 12 x 1,000 from your income. Let us assume you stay within the 15% tax bracket on your earnings. Fifteen percent of $12,000 is $1,800, which is the additional amount you will have to pay on your income tax. No, Romney won't raise taxes. He will achieve the same thing by not allowing you deductions you have had for years, and effectively by making you pay more.

Romney is a snake oil salesman.

I think that President Obama played it cool on purpose. Romney looked like he was raving like one of those tea party crazy people. I was especially fascinated by his wild eyes...if that is what he will bring to diplomacy we are all in deep do-do.

Unfortunately liberals completely discount Fox's hard news division, and want to believe that Fox News is no more than the goofy morning show and Sean Hannity... They don't understand that if you don't watch Fox News that you only get half the News as there is a lot of reporting that the mainstream media will not touch.... Like the 2007 Obama speech to the black ministers on Katrina.... Liberals never see such reporting and when they finally do they try to discredit it as if the simple fact that it was reported on Fox News somehow discounts the fact that it was actual video of the president race mongering... he had the gonads to tell those ministers that the federal government had refused to wave the stafford act simply because the New Orleans community was predominately black when in fact he knew not only had the federal government not only waved the stafford act, but that he was one of only fourteen votes against waving the act...

That is why the liberals hate Fox News, simply because it is the only major news source where you can learn the truth about what goes on in DC under the Obama administration.

I wish Obama played it cool on purpose buy I am worried that he did not. He looked tired and drawn to me.

I do think, however, that if Romney wins he will be a very bad diplomat. We had a sample of two of that a month or so ago.

If he was running against Obama... You bet!!

LOL fascism..... What is that again, government control of private industry... Let's see Obama is the closest that this country has ever come to fascism.... His destruction of the coal industry while putting all his close friends into the green industry with government money, huge stock purchases of GM instead of loans and loan guarantees... and he only promises to do more in his second term...... Watch the EPA and see how much control they take over the private industry of this country.... Fascism... yes Obama has that plan in the ol' tackle box.

And he also looked like he was trying to figure out how to blame G.W. Bush for there being no TelePrompTers allowed.

Oh comeon now with the talking point lies, you're starting to sound like Obama. You do know the only reason he had such an incompennet debate is because they took away his tellaprompter.
