If we don't get a handle on this Virus problem we could end up like the movie "On the Beach " which was produced in the late 5o'ssss . I would suggest all of you to look at it . I saw it in 59 and will never forget it . We are headed in that direction with the virus or other means . It is on You Tube . Be careful, it is depressing .

redtooth, thanks for the heads up on the past and the movie. I personally can't watch the news more than 5 minutes before I get depressed so I don't watch it. I also don't trust it either. Who verifies the figures they throw about? I don't want to sound disrespectful, but I won't be watching the movie "On the Beach" either.

Don't you think it's good that people are paying attention and listening to health experts? They probably believed that the best way to celebrate the 4th of July is to stay alive. The United States has one of the worst records of infection of the Covid 19 virus. Everyone needs to be careful of themselves and others until numbers start going the other way. Stay safe!

Well DebAnn, you bring up some very valid points. It's all about "safety" and if everyone needs to sacrifice their personal pleasure like enjoying the beach to live, then we need to be obedient.

I did a screen shot and sent it to my brother. He had a Schwinn like that 60 years ago.

A classic for sure!

Great capture of the time we are going through. The waves were awesome and would have made a lot of surfers happy. Stay safe till we can go out safely again.

Yeah Rusty, this virus thing is really bad in many ways........I never thought something like this could impact my "surfing photos"........

Great photos that evoke so much more than an event. Based upon the responses, it appears the majority of us are really old coots...I guess it is no surprise, as it is basically a DSLR forum.

My guess is that the average UHH age is older. I think most of us used to shoot with SLR cameras before the digital age.
Thanks for the "great photos" comment......I appreciate it.

Why is that Susan? Because of our beaches? It is what it is..........

You still got some great images of the area & folks trying to make the best of it like yourself. Love the Vintage Bicycles too.....nice to see them again. It's a great Beach just the same and the water is gorgeous. Thanks man.

Over Labor Day weekend 1995, I was visiting Manhatten Beach. On Saturday of that weekend, I had a book with me when I strolled the two blocks to the beach. It looked like your photo of Huntington Beach, not a soul in sight. My experience was weather-induced. It was rather cold and cloudy. I dressed appropriately, got out on the sand, scooped out a somewhat lawn lounge chair form in the sand, and sat there and read for a few hours. It was quite delightful to have the peace and quiet with only the sound of the waves in the background.

Bob, I'm glad these photos could take you back to a "happy place" in your memories. That's awesome!!

I love the shots Brent . Wonder how all of those thousands of people celebrated the 4th.

Well, many of them were on the boardwalk riding bikes and walking. I've never seen it so jammed with people! I think the government wanted everyone to stay home though.

I wanted to share with all my UHH friends the difference between a normal summertime beach day in Huntington Beach and the way it is now. The photos at the beginning depicts what's it looking like now and this photo I'm attaching was taken in August of last year.

This has been The weirdest 4th of July at Huntington Beach ever. The pier was shut down along with ALL the beaches. The boardwalk where you could ride your bike was open and there were plenty of joggers and bikers but no one on the beach. It was really a shame too because the waves were BIG and no surfers at all. It was like a ghost town on the sand. What a difference a year makes. Normally on the 4th of July there would be thousands of people enjoying the beach and ocean. Photo #4 really tells a story about how many beach goers wanted to celebrate Independence day with the stars and stripes........even on their face with a patriotic mask.
These all look best in download mode.

There’s some pretty exotic looking bikes there too, amongst the tanned legs.
