Need sound advise. I am 73 years old 5'3" and 130 lbs woman. I have been back packing my camera equipment around the world, until lately of course. There are occasions where I would find it getting a bit difficult to carry 20+ pounds of equipment around all day. I have a Nikon D750 and a number of lenses, the heaviest is my Tamron 70-200. I want to hear all the pros and cons of the Leica Q2. It is quite a leap, financially, but it sounds like a less exhausting way to maximize my love of photography and travel. I know there're occasion where my Nikon will be the way to go, but will I enjoy the ease and comfort of a high end point and shoot.

How you Live is more important than how you die. Obviously you are a person with strong interest in photography. I learned with Dad's Leica M3 better than 60 years ago. I still cherish and use (less often than I should!) that same camera. A couple of years ago my oldest friend gave me a Leica D Lux. Though nothing really stops me physically from using my Nikon system gear, the Leica is a wonderful, sophisticated camera. Go for the gusto!

If you want to reduce weight and amount of stuff you carry then I would look into one of the other compact Leicas that have a zoom lens vs the Q2. From my own experience I would not be happy with just a single fixed lens. You will always be desiring more. That is why I would recommend D-Lux7 or the V-Lux5. You cannot get any better than Leica. They will last a lifetime. Personally I use Sony a7 series cameras and a bunch of lenses. But I carry the Sony RX100M5 when traveling. It is a compact Camera with fixed zoom lens equivelent to 24-70mm. The Leica's are the worlds best. You can't go wrong within of them.

Good LORD, Ma'am!

What in the WORLD are you carrying???

20+ pounds???

What are you shooting that requires that much weight?

I get scorned a lot because my field of photographic expertise is not in the artistic field like most Hoggers.

As a photojournalist, I have ALWAYS been about the weight of my equipment.

This is why I used a Nikon FG for 15 years when all the "real pros" were using F2s and F3s.

My FG with an MD-E motor drive weighed less than an F2 without one.

This is also why I use Nikon D5600s, today - they are incredibly light in weight, but not in features or usability.

My ENTIRE RIG weighs less than eight pounds.

That's two bodies, three zooms, three fast primes, big flash, little flash, big bag and day bag.

Typical out-shooting-for-the-day rig (two cameras, two zooms, big flash) weighs less than 4.5 pounds.

Light day rig (one camera, one lens, small flash) weighs less then TWO POUNDS!

If I am feeling particularly puny or lazy or know I am going places where people don't particularly like having a DSLR pointed at them, I take my Fujifilm X100F.

Save yourself some money and get a lighter body and a couple of light, general-purpose lenses.

Your back will thank you!

If you are a pixel-peeper or just want bragging rights then, by all means, get the Leica.

If you just want to take good pictures without needing to feed, house and care for a pack mule, get lighter NIkon equipment that will let you use the heavy stuff, when you need it, or an X100F or X100V.

You'll save your back, a ton of money and, most likely, will never see an difference in your final image without a microscope.

There is a joy to using superb equipment, regardless of the endeavor. I am not the greatest fan of 28mm, in fact, it is one of the few focal lengths not in my Nikon "arsenal". Agree you might be well served with with the zoom on newest D Lux 7.

Even though I am a recovering perfectionist, almost as good is no where the same as the best.

My quest for perfection has been heightened by the quarantine. Living alone all these months has muted my inner voice, hence my call for balancing opinions

"Need sound advise." Stay locale until a vaccine becomes available... it will just a matter of time...
Jonas Salk (a giant who walked among us (1914–1995)) became a national hero when he allayed the fear of a dreaded disease with his polio vaccine, approved in 1955. Polio was even more horrific than covid19.

Second you seriously need to trade that Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 for a Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR lens. which will give you over 90% of what that Tamron Beast will...

Do the math... 3.28 lb / 1.49 kg verses 1.5 lb / 680 g
There I've just saved you nearly 2lbs (1.75lbs to be exact).

At your age coming up the curve on a new unfamiliar user interface will not be a pleasant ordeal...
Once again... stay locale, be safe, wear a mask, practice social distancing etc.
covid19 is currently surging in many states (you didn't list yours so I'm clueless as to your current risk profile). All predictions indicate it will likely become resurgent in the autumn with vengeance...

Again at your age your chance of surviving intubation in an ICU is not very good... the numbers don't lie... My best friend is an ICU Nurse... she's keenly aware of how horrific covid19 is...
Bottom Line? They celebrate every time an intubated patient recovers and leaves their hospital alive...

Also you'll probably really like that new AF-P Nikkor... I have it and it's VR is beyond excellent... like 5 stops easily... feather light!

btw you may be suffering from the The Nirvana Fallacy of comparing actual things with unrealistic, idealized alternatives. better stated "the things you own will likely end up owning you"

All the best on your journey...

Don't let the numbers fool you. I am a retired RN that volunteers time during the current surge time. I live in the land of make believe, aka Florida(h). Back on full lock down and working via zoom. My last trip was with Nat Geo to Antartica, the weight of the backpack made my balance, on icy terrain, unsteady. I did manage to keep up. Not sure when I will be traveling again, all my trips for 2020 have been canceled. Thanks for the lens advise.

On doing more research, There is also the Leica C-Lux. It also compact camera but a larger sensor and longer zoom than the D-Lux7. I would rent one of the Leicas for a week or so before taking the dive. If you are able to visit a real Camera store then you may be able to bypass the rental. A timex and a Rolex both keep good time. Hold a Timex to your ear and listen. Hold a Rolex to you ear. One sounds like a truck and the other sounds like an Indy race car. You can see, hear, and feel the differance in a Leica. If I could afford Leica Cameras and Lenses I would. I afford the best I can so my equipment is Zeiss lenses on Sony bodies.

Here is my Sony a99ii and Zeiss 24-70 f2.8 my RX-100M5 with the equivalent 24-70 . And a little something you are familiar with for size comparison. The Leica compacts are similar in size to the RX-100.

DC - darn, I'll have to trust you! BTW, on Polio, Salk did very well, but it was Sabin that turned the key with the oral vaccine - was there for the disease then, and a visit to the Institute decades later. Wonderful facility, but not much going on. In Re: vaccines and Flu - good luck. So far, every time, over the past decades they have mutated too fast for any vaccine to be worth jack. Have never bothered, with a distinguished physician father making the recommendation. Worked better than the current BS. You can live or live in fear - take your "muzzle" and put it where the sun don't shine. The research on masks so far is Hamsters - whoa! Won't wear one or kneel to anyone.

Let me suggest you consider a Fuji system. The weight will be half or less than what you are carrying and except for those situations where you need ISOs above 6400, I doubt you can see the difference. Their controls are super simple and intuitive and Fuji lenses are easily the equal of Nikon’s best. Start with an X-T2,3 or 4 (whatever fits your budget) and a few of their quality lenses, and you will be carrying a 2-1/2 pound camera/lens instead of 5-6, and your other lenses will be 1/2 to 2/3 the weight of what you are carrying now with no visible loss of performance. I have a Canon FF system and a stack of L series lenses, but more and more, I’m picking up the Fuji.
I don’t think I can bring myself to sell the Canon system, but all my spare future $ is going into Fuji glass.

As my RN wife told a similar to you person in the grocery store line yesterday. Sir, would you rather wear a mask today or a ventilator tube tomorrow.
Play safe

Sorry about getting off subject. But national health is everyone's concern.
