How lonesome can you get?

On the road to Three Forks and the Lewis and Clark Caverns in southwest Montana. I always wonder things like, "Who were these folks? Where did they come from? What possessed the builder of this structure to settle on this exact spot? Where did they get the logs to build it? How far did they have to go for water? Where was the nearest source of supplies? Etc..." But... I guess we 'll never know...all we have is the legacy of their lives found in these old homesteads...

In the middle of nowhere. Like the composition and the golden look.

Thanks! The "golden look" was one of the main aspects of this image I wanted to convey - glad it came across!

First of all, really nice shot Tommy. Is that a cistern off to the left. Maybe a windmill and a well was there in earlier times. The structure seems large enough for a family, but may have been a bunk house for use during round ups? As you say, we'll never know but I always wish old houses could talk.

Some interesting thoughts there, good sir! A windmill and well would certainly make sense. And the large families that often inhabited these homesteads were large for a reason - it took a small army to make a go of life out on the prairie! A bunkhouse is also a possibility. Thanks for posting!

The download is great. I guess the people who built it were tough resourceful pioneers!

Both of today's images are great, Tommy. Glad you took the road to Three Forks.

The grass around the house seems greener and larger - I wonder if there is some groundwater right there...

Love the picture. Of course, all your questions may never be answered. I look at the picture, the fence, and the small cabin, I think of it as a way station when the animals were brought into a different piece of land to graze. Those "cowboys" would use that as their home away from home.
Then again; Pilgrim...I enjoy Westerns.

WOW! Looked at first and thought huh just another landscape. Well I downloaded and this photo is awesome. The colors and the sun over the horizon is perfect. This is definitely a wall hanger. Post more when you can, love it. Thanks

Tom
