For anyone who has ever dealt with the "business end" of a wasp, here's what it looks like up close. When you do a 'double download' you can see the stinger of the little bugger which is what I wanted to share.

The other thing that I found interesting is how its abdomen is segmented and I can envision how the plates fold and expand so that it can "scrunch its butt" as it dig its stinger into someone.

Well, no need to worry about this one any longer.

Isn't that cool..? Reminds me of a suit-of-armor in the way that it is engineered. That Mother Nature is one heck of a designer.

Thanks, of course it is the venom that causes the pain and I've been tagged many times so I have first hand experience with the "OUCH".

Nicely done stack sippy!! I once watched the stinger of a Konga ant enter the tip of my middle finger. (They call them bullet ants now I guess) It was an experience I am in no hurry to repeat. The pain went up to my shoulder & then back down to all of my fingers. Somehow I've avoided being stung by yellowjackets. Lots of honey bees have nailed me though.

Great shot. I’ve been on the receiving end a time or two. Nice to know I won’t have to contend with this one. Thanks for sharing.

How well I am familiar with that business end. While living in Oklahoma, I got stung on my upper arm. Luckily I was with a friend who noticed the arm was swelling up. She grabbed me and quickly tied a tourniquet around the shoulder (from arm pit and up above the shoulder. She then took me to the hospital which was about 2 miles away. Thankfully I was treated immediately as I found out I was allergic to their venom.

Thanks for dropping by. Wow, Bullet Ants mean serious business. I've never encountered one although I have seen several programs about them. I understand that their name has been well earned and I'm sure that after being stung by one you would find the name fitting too.

Thanks, they can be sneaky little devils too with where they choose to build their nests.
