You have captured a good image, IMO needs a couple of tweaks to be a great image. She has great expression in her eyes. Lighting and exposure look good. Two things that I would consider doing differently. The bow is hiding her face. Why? It has become a distracting element. If you raised the camera angle a little to reveal all of her face I think it would be a stronger image. The other is where the hands are cropped pull back slightly to get her whole right hand in the frame and not cut her left hand off right at the wrist.

Thanks Jaackil...I have other images which show her whole face but I liked the expression and eyes in this one. As for the cropping...she has an injured finger on the right hand and is wearing a white plastic splint on one finger, thus the cropping :)

I rather like it... a confident musician aiming the violin at the viewer and pouring forth a barrage music. However, were it my image, I'd pop up the musician's eyes- the irises especially- and tamp down the lightness of that outside shoulder just a bit...
Also... it would make an excellent black and white...

If you zoom in and crop to see mainly her face, the eyes are riveting, the bow and violin are out of focus and all other distracting elements are eliminated.

I like the concept and the expression in the subject's eyes but I see so many issues, distortions, and focus problems. If you want a detailed critique, please let me know. This was not an entirely candid shot so you had time to control many aspects of the composition that would have made a difference.

An important aspect of the violinist's character is her hands and the position of the finger's position on the neck of the instrument. The selective focus on her eyes is effective but the out of focus hands and the pegbox and scroll of the instrument. form a an indistinguishable clump of light. I don't mind the bow cutting across her face but it enters and leaves the frame with no hands and divides the composition into 2 diagonal halves. I would have liked to see the instrument form lines and cures leading int her face and eyes. Perhaps a slightly higher camera position.

I realize that oftentimes images of musicians in action are difficult to compose because the authentic position of holding and playing the instrument may no be compatible with the design you want to achieve in the composition.

Perhaps if Lauren is willing to serenade you once more you can try some alternative angles and lighting.

Try a side view. leave a bit more space, and allow for enough depth of field to bring the hands and instrument into focus. Have her wear a darker top.
